It’s been a very good October for the weather, yes it is on the change now but we have been very fortunate and we hope that November will be equally as kind to us…. fingers crossed!
We have the results of week 3 of the Armagh Potato Company sponsored winter league…. Willie Gracey is a handy golfer who does not show up too often on the top of the leaderboard, not too why because he is a deceivingly decent player, he reminds me of the welsh wizard Ian Woosnam! Willie had a score of 45 points but it was not the only 45 points scored this week, young Harry Clougher renowned for his prowess around the golf course also produced the goods! However it was Willie Gracey who won on the countback and took 1st place with Harry in the runner-up position, well done fellas! The best gross score of the week is the round of Sam Jenkins one better than the course…well done Sam! Standings after week 3 of the winter league, joint 1st Harry Clougher and Sam Jenkins both with 3 rounds adding up to 125 points, 3rd Davy McAdam with 121 points, 4th Seamus Golding with 119 and 5th Edwin Atkinson, check the club notice board for your own position after week 3 of winter league.
The 9 hole Junior competition was won by Daniel Brown with 17 points, Ben Currie takes the runner-up position for the 3rd time in a row with his score of 13 points and Luke Weir once again gets 3rd place with 10 points… well done lads!
The arrival of the new mower has seen a big improvement to the course, plus the spraying of the greens and a little rain has really improved the greens in quite a short space of time. A set of circumstances with the main mower out of action for several weeks and necessary work done to the greens with little rain just left the course condition appearing to be a little less than we have been used to. What golf course can survive without a suitable mower for a prolonged period of time? The greenkeepers have now worked their magic and I have to say they have made a remarkable difference to the overall condition, it would have been nice to see this happen sooner but we are now back on track…well done fellas!
Good luck and enjoy your golf
