The weather… it just can’t be predicted, but we’ll take as much of the old currant bun as we can get, especially appreciated at this time of the year.

The Winter League sponsored by Armagh Potato Company is at it’s halfway stage, four rounds of golf played and calculated.   A chance to know where every other golfer is in relation to your own score.  A time to dig deep and get the best out of your game, because there is no guarantee that those in the top positions will still be there in four weeks time.  It’s still all to play for…. remember it’s your best six scorecards that count, a couple of poor scorecards will not do much harm to your overall score, as the two worst scores are dropped from your eight rounds.

This week it was Adrian Faulkner’s turn to produce the goods, a round of 46 points was the top score of week four.  A very decent score which brings Aidie a good way up the overall leaderboard, another couple of scores like that and he will be a real contender come the final week!  Well done Aidie!  Second place went to David Mitchell with an excellent 44  points, that will do you no harm at all David…. keep it going!

Sam Jenkins went around level par to the course!  Sam has asked if he needs to turn up every week… and can we just give him the best gross each week….?  Actually he didn’t really say that at all, but you have to admit the winner of the gross score is getting very predictable.  He seems to have gone onto auto-pilot.  I propose we take a look at an additional handicap adjustment for Sam, preferably the tying up of one arm and one leg, we will defer the blindfold until we see how he copes… we don’t want to over react.

Now to the top ten on the overall Winter League leaderboard: 1st-Sam Jenkins…167 points, 2nd-Harry Clougher…165, 3rd-Davy McAdam…163, 4th-Seamus Golding…157, 5th-Edwin Atkinson…155, 6th-Cecil Brownlee…153, 7th-Aidie Faulkner…149, 8th-Andy Currie…145, 9th-Aaron Agg…144 and 10th-Alan Magill.   Please check the club noticeboard for the complete list of placings at the halfway stage of the winter league.

The Junior 9 hole competition was won by Fintan Walsh with an excellent 21 points, runner-up once again with a 20 point score was Ben Currie and 3rd was Luke Weir with 15 points…. practice makes perfect fellas, keep at it!   The player of the month f0r October…. Ben Currie, 2nd every week  very consistent!  Daniel Brown was 2nd and John Harrison 3rd, well done lads!

In July Jack Traynor won the Darren Clarke Trophy Qualifying Competition, it always has a good turnout and is an excellent event to win!  Jack played in the final at Killymoon Golf Club this weekend, the Darren Clarke Trophy has a new owner, Jack Traynor is now the Darren Clarke Trophy 2015 Champion!  A very prestigious competition to win, well done Jack… just brilliant!  It’s also a great honour for Loughgall too!  We have had some remarkable successes in the short history of Loughgall Golf Club and this is up there with the best of them… you had better start practicing your signature mate, it could be in demand!

Good luck and enjoy your golf!
