WE ARE OFF…!  Captain Eddie Millar starts the season with the traditional Captains Drive and as usual its a shotgun start.  Always a lot of anticipation, everyone would like to get a good start after what seems to be an age since the end of last season.  The format was the best two scores at the hole count, plus the points count as double on two previously chosen joker holes.  A 4ball were working off three quarters their handicap and a 3ball was full handicap.  Usually its won by a 4ball, four players tend to stand a better chance of winning unless you get three steady players together and they dovetail well between eachother!  The winning team was indeed a better than steady 3ball, infact they were very good, their score of 100 points were 5 points clear of the next best team, actually four teams had 95 points!  The 2015 winners of the Captains Drive were Harry Clougher, Mal Cullen and Sean McCann.  Very well done fellas…you were head and shoulders clear of the rest of us and deserved the win!  The other winner on the day was the drive that ended closest to where the captains drive finished and that was Robert Treanor, just half a metre… well done Robert!

In this weeks Weekly Challenge Dessie Hughes and Patrick McCrory both had the top score of 41 points, but as you know we can only have one winner and this week Dessie Hughes loses out on the countback, its cruel but its the way its done.  Well done Patrick…you have been showing up consistantly around the top of the leaderboard too, I wonder if we will see either of you taking the prizes now the season has started in earnest, good luck and have a good season!  Third place goes to Denis Glass with 40 points…well done Denis!

This Saturday we have the BJ Mullan & sons Stableford Competition, our first qualifying event of the year and on Sunday we have the Murder Mystery NI Weekly Challenge.

If you can’t make your tee times you must contact Cecil Brownlee as early as possible to avoid losing your tee time in the future, this will be strictly monitored this season!

I would like to wish both Davy McRoberts and Vivian Teague the very best in their efforts to improve our young golfers at Loughgall and to enlarge the number of junior golfers attending the growing junior section we have here, both boys and girls.  Our members can help them by letting people know about the good work being carried out with the juniors here, if you have young ones in your family or your friends have children… don’t be shy, it maybe the start of a wonderful experience for them, speak up…!  Mention the good work going on here and the benefits of being outside doing sport rather than on the computer or watching tv, its a win win situation….thank you!  Contact Davy or Vivian if you need more information.

Good luck for the season and enjoy your golf!
