This is the last report before the official start of the 2015 season and there is plenty to tell.  The Weekly Challenge….. shock of all shocks, he has done it once again, Dessie Hughes has the best score of several very good scores but his 47 points was enough to win this weeks Weekly Challenge!  Second was an excellent score from Anthony (Alan) Ball, just one shot behind Dessie with 46 points, Andy Matthews…. had 44 points which was the same as Jason Wilson’s score but Andy took 3rd place on the countback.  I know someone who played this weeks Weekly Challenge and came last in his 4 ball with a score of 42 points….?  There were seven 2s.

Saturday was a Club Stableford event and with the good weather prevailing the number of entries were up on previous weeks, the top score was 44 points which was produced by Evan Simpson who was two clear of Steve Wall in second place.  One point behind Steve was Pat McCrory with 41 points which was good enough for 3rd place.  The best gross score belonged to Jonathan McNabb!  Section winners were Martin Dalzell 0-12, Stuart Treanor 13-18, Jack Traynor 19 plus, front nine was Noel Holmes and the back nine was won by our club captain Eddie Millar!  There were only five 2s.

There was an extraordinary occurance on the 2nd hole on Saturday, my playing partner had his ball slobbered upon, before anyone asks I can assure you he was physically unharmed.  However his excellent tee shot was intercepted by two playful golden Labradors who were intent on having a good time whilst they were free from their owner who was nowhere to be seen.  The owner of the somewhat slobbery golf ball was none other than our past captain Kevin McCoy who dealt with the situation in his customary calm unflappable manner, replacing the ball on the fairway where it originally came to rest.  The dogs were obviously having a great time in and out of the pond and sand on that fairway, it was only the concerted efforts of Wayne Haffey that eventually dealt with dogs.  Apparently he was furious that they were allowed to play a round on the course without paying first and without a time slot, but it would be unfair to blame the wonderful receptionists who are usually quite vigilant….lol.

Well done team captain Stephen Mullen and his merry men who made up the Ulster Cup Select team, they are…Jackson Ruddock, Aaron Agg, Evan Simpson, Brian Nixon jnr and Liam McArdle who played in the final, also Andy Currie and Gerald Williamson also played their part for the team in previous rounds.  The final score was 9 points for the Ulster Cup Select and 6 points for the Willie Young Ones, well done both teams!  Team Challenge Winners 2015…… Ulster Cup Select…!!!

The Captains Drive takes place this Saturday at 8am sharp, be there early…. 7.30am!  If you check Club News on this website you will be able to see what hole you are teeing off from on Saturday!  Lets hope for a very successful 2015 for LGC and our club Captain Eddie Millar!

Good luck and enjoy your golf!
