Great weather by anyone’s standards, if we had three months of these conditions there would be a lot of happy golfers about….well reasonably happy, it would depend on your form at the moment, but a bit of sunshine makes any day a better day. Another stroke competition again this week, the Fred Daly Memorial is on every season, it is another well supported event in the LGC calendar and the competition certainly was hot just like the weather. Once again we see a high handicapper producing a superb score to take 1st prize with a round of 84 which means a nett score of 61 off his 23 h.cap, Paul Lavery is top on the leaderboard, but also acquires a new handicap of 19 for his efforts….well done Paul. In 2nd place with an excellent round of 77…. a nett 62 was Barry Rayner, who must have thought he was in with a good chance after shooting a score 10 shots better than his handicap of 15, Barry also gets a new handicap of 12. Jonathan Lockhart came in with a round of 79 giving him a nett 65 which has altered his handicap from 14 to 12 and gives him 3rd place! The best gross score of the day was Sam Jenkins round of 73 which also brings him a handicap reduction, Sam now plays off a 6 h.cap! Cecil Brownlee had the best score by a senior…. an 89 gross score off a 20 h.cap gives Cecil a nett 65 and reduces his 20 h.cap to 19. Section winners were Harry Clougher 0-12, James O’Hagan 13-18, Captain Eddie Millar gets 19+ section, front nine goes to David Kelly, back nine was won by Alan Magill! Well done those in the prizes and better luck next time to the also rans….!
The Murder Mystery sponsored Wednesday Sweep was won by Brian McGuigan with a score of 40 points, closely followed by Graham Moore and Spencer Lawson both on 39 points, Spencer just losing out on a countback. Well done Brian!
The 18 hole junior competition was won by Fin Walsh with an excellent 41 points, a great score Fin!
Our Junior Cowdy team recently played the 1st leg of the first round match at Nuremore and were beat 3-1, on Sunday the Nuremore team came to Loughgall for the 2nd leg return match. I am pleased to say our Loughgall Junior Cowdy team showed what they were made of and achieved a 3.5-0.5 win at home, good enough to put Loughgall into the 2nd round! Notable important moments include our Club President Kevin Keegan getting a birdie on the 18th to get a half point in his match. Willie Fenton and Raymond Henry were behind in their match 3 down and 4 to play and won their match on the 18th! Another point of fact, Willie McWilliams is unbeaten in all his matches in both the Junior Cowdy and the Ulster 4 ball teams! I’m sure Willie wouldn’t mind me mentioning that fact, it deserves recognition. Well done to team captain Andy Currie and the whole team, keep it going fella’s!
Good luck and enjoy your golf!
