The Jimmy Bruen team win the Team Challenge on the 2nd Play-off hole
The match was all square with 4.5 points each – Sam Jenkins and Jonny McNabb shared the spoils in the singles – they were all square after 15 and when Sam brooke the deadlock on the 16th with a birdie it looked over for Jonny – but he replied with a par on the 17th to bring the match level again and 2 pars on the 18th left them sharing the spoils
The foursomes saw the 2 captains up against each other – with Clive Currie and Sean McCann coming out easy winners to take all 3 points over Jason Wilson and David McAdam – it looked over in favour of the Ulster Cup Select
However, the final match was the four ball – John Allen and Drew Willis up against Eugene Scullion and Patrick McCrory – the Jimmy Bruen pair Scullion and McCrory were always in control and run out easy winners to bring the decider up the 1st
The fourball pairings were sent out again to decide the outcome of the Team Challenge – Eugene sent his drive out of bounds and John drove to the edge of the water, Drew and Patrick both found the middle of the fairway – Drew laid up to the 100yd marker and Patrick found the rough to the side of the green – John Allen played a wonder 5 iron shot from the bank, almost falling in, and found the rough at the side of the green – with Eugene out of the hole it looked like Allen and Willis were set for victory – but poor chips left them with work to do for par – the hole was halfed with boggies – so on to the 2nd playoff hole – both Allen and Willis split the fairway with their drives but Scullion hit the drive of the day to find the green and McCrory found the fairway just short of the green. The 3 boys all found the green with their approach shots but still had work to do – Eugene almost holed his putt for an eagle and left a gimmie birdie – John had a trickie 15′ putt but just missed – meaning that this years winners are the Jimmy Bruen team under their Captain Jason Wilson.
Well done to all you took part in this years Team Challenge – a very closely fought contest right to the end
