The weather….well it has been a little bit changeable of late, but we are still hoping it settles soon especially with captains day just two Saturday’s away, it would be nice if captain Stephen Wilson got a good day….the rest of us would quite like it too!
Saturday’s competition was the JMB Coaches sponsored stableford event which had an excellent turnout, our winner showed some good form in recent weeks and has already been cut for a previous competition win. Jim Cunningham’s 41 points means his h.cap will be cut again and in this form all looks very promising coming up to captains day! Second placed David Mitchell had 40 points and is another person showing form at the right time of the year, also on 40 points but pushed into 3rd place on countback was Stephen Mills, it’s good to see you on the leaderboard again Stephen. Jonathan Hewitt had another excellent round of 2 under par, with just 70 strokes taken he gets the best gross score. I predict another course record is not too far away! Section winners were Wayne Crawford 0-12, Noel Holmes 13-18, Adrian Faulkner 19+, Simon Wallace takes the best front 9, Ryan Kennedy the best back 9, the best senior score was had by John Currie, well done fellas!
The new Sunday Sweep which has just been reinstated after a few years absence was won by that rank outsider to win anything at the moment….Barry Rayner with 36 points, that’s another first for you Barry. In 2nd place and as always a contender was Evan (Almighty) Simpson with 35 points, a point behind was Brian Nixon who has also been showing some form and not to be ruled out of a captain’s day upset!
The 18 hole Junior competition produced some super scores this week, a top score of 51… that’s 51 points for winner Daniel Brown and definitely due a cut in your h.cap. In 2nd place with 44 points was Ben Currie, I’m sure you must have been thinking you had a good chance of another win there Ben. Third was yet another good score by James McCammon….41 points! Great scoring fellas!
The course is in great shape at the moment thanks to the ground staff at LGC who are doing an excellent job. With our course looking so well… great greens, fairways and controlled rough, this can only attract more members, what golfer wouldn’t want to play this course… it’s also fantastic value for money too!
Good luck and enjoy your golf!
