There was a big night on Friday past, it was a chance for those who have done well over the season to come and collect the fruits of their labour….medals, cups, vouchers and ofcourse the recognition of their fellow golfers for a job well done at sometime during the year. An event has to be won if you are a lucky prize winner! The evening was not too bad a turnout but there are always some prizes which are never collected, so that tells you there could have been more in attendance? Here are just a few of the more major competitions and the proud winners: Singles Knockout=Mark Hazely, Doubles Knockout=Jackson Ruddock & Robert Treanor, Walker Cup=Adam Kerr, Morgan Cup=Mark Hazely, Brownlee Cup=Steve Wall, St Andrews Qualifier=Kyle Holmes, Armagh Potato Company Winter League… overall individual winner=Davy McRoberts and the golfer of the year was the unsuspecting Jason Wilson! There were many more prizes won for the various events throughout the season including Jonathan Hewitt who clocked up 10 best gross scores in one season, you have to admire the standard of consistant golf being played by Jonny to achieve that (ofcourse a regular 4 ball helps with a few wise heads on their shoulders….lol), well done to all those who collected prizes you deserve your applauds!
In addition to the prizes there was a golf simulator and a couple of putting surfaces to be tried out on the night, an indoor winter competition will be run from Friday 8th January for 12 weeks. Although this is the first time tried out by LGC, we hope it will prove popular….details will be put on the noticeboard, please take a look and put your name on the list if you think you may be interested, the exact format will be posted on the noticeboard asap.
Now for details of our competitions…. The Club Stableford competition held on Saturday was won by Patrick McCrory with 45 points off a 18 h.cap which was just good enough to push the inform Dessie Hughes who also plays off 18 h.cap into 2nd place on a countback. Sam Jenkins had the best gross, just 2 over the course! Well done fellas!
Our Weekly Challenge event was won by Stephen Mullen, 41 points playing off his 11 h.cap and Dessie Hughes took the best gross score! Well done Stephen and Dessie… both very competitive golfers and both hitting the ball very nicely at the moment.
