The weather has steadied of late and Saturday’s MJM Designs strokeplay event proved to be a decent day for golf. This time of the year we have to expect some maintenance and treatment of some areas of the course, the greens have been scarified and sanded therefore it is bound to be playing different. Yes it does affect your putting but its the same for everyone and the work done now will ensure better greens later on. We just have to let the green keepers do what they do best, a couple of weeks time and we will be past the worst of it and be putting like demons again…lol.
Evan Simpson had a great round of 75 just 3 over the course thats a nett 62, eight shots better than his handicap and his reward for that is 1st place and a new handicap of 8, also Evan was one of only 4 two’s recorded on the day which means there will be a reasonable payout for this too! The next best score was that of Stephen McKenna a nett 67, Stephen Thompson came in 3rd with a nett 68. The best gross score was Jonathan Hewitt’s round of 75! The best senior score was Michael Ballintines 69! Good scoring fellas!
Section winners were Robert Treanor 0-12, Graham Buckley 13-18, Gary Jordan 19+, front nine Kenneth Todd and the back nine Jonathon Faulkner!
The Weekly Challenge was won by Willie (The Turp) McWilliams with 42 points, narrowly beating Barry Rayner into 2nd place on countback.
Once again the juniors were out on Saturday afternoon enjoying the golf and the guidance of resident pro Vivian Teague with help from our Junior Convenor Davy McRoberts and willing parents/members. Great work being done by these fellas, well done all involved! Hopefully these young people will get the correct training and the bug to continue, the club, the country park and the kids all benefiting from an enthused and growing junior section at LGC… its all ahead of them!
Information on the upcoming PC.Com event…. it has been rescheduled for the 4th October, keep an eye on the notice board for further updates!
Good luck and enjoy your golf!
