Saturday was a good day for golfing, actually it was a good day for most things, the weather was fine and once again there was a car rally taking place which drew in the numbers.  In recent years the rally has been staged at the country park and become something of a fixture, this Saturday was a proper rally with time trials.  Just a few weeks back the other rally was here with all the custom built and restored classic cars, the time, money, attention to detail and patience required to undertake the task of restoring these cars must become more a labour of love, you only have to look at the finished product to see it.

Enough of the side show let’s get on with the  business of the main event…the golf!  Sally McNally’s sponsored Four Club Challenge took place on Saturday, using only four clubs  can prove to be a real test of a golfers creativity and resourcefulness, some golfers can thrive on such a challenge!  Enter our winner….. Aidie Faulkner, four clubs and 40 points, well done Aidie!  Second was Darren Wilson with a very good 36 points which just pushed Stuart Treanor who was also on 36 points into 3rd position on a countback. The best gross was produced by Johnny McNabb and the best senior score was that of John Currie!  Section winners were Stephen Graham 0-12, Nelson Weir 13-18 and Nigel Hutchinson 19+, very well done all those in the prizes!

The Wednesday Sweep sponsored by Nutmeg Treasures was won by Andy Matthews with 20 points, 2nd was Nelson Weir with 17 points and in 3rd place was Sean McKeever… well done fella’s.  Just to clarify…this competition is now a qualifying event and handicaps are worked out according to CONGU for the 9 hole competition.  If you look on the sticker printed out for your scorecard the number in brackets is the shots recieved.  An example would be an 18 handicapper will have (7) shots on the front nine holes.

The previous Weekly Challenge results were not published on our website last week so here are the results….1st was William Camblin with 42 points, 2nd with 38 points was Anthony Ball and in 3rd place was Jamie Stevenson with 37 points!

The Weekly Challenge sponsored by Murder Mystery NI was won by Andy Matthews with a score of 43 points, Stephen Mullen had 38 points which was good enough for 2nd place and in 3rd position was Dessie Hughes with 37 points…. good shooting fella’s!

This weeks results for the Juniors 18 Hole Competition….. In 1st place was Daniel Brown with 41 points well clear of his rivals, 2nd place was Fintan Walsh with 28 points and 3rd was Diarmuid McKeown with a score of 22 points.  Well done lads, remember…practice practice and more practice….you could be the next Rory!

Our Rossmore team took a fairly heavy defeat at the hands of Cloverhill 3 and a half to a half, well done Stuart Treanor & Willie Turner for the half. However our chance will come on their visit to Loughgall, so heads up fellas it’s only halftime.  The sun is on our backs and we have a following wind…. it will be a great turnaround if we can get our act together and play like we all know we can!

Anyone with singles or doubles matches to get played will need to have them played before the end of this month of May, or risk being disqualified and put out of the competition.

Good luck and enjoy your golf!
