Just when you think we have got away lightly with the month of February winter suddenly kicks in and the blizzards take their toll on the course. I’m referring to the closure of the course on Saturday, although the day turned out ok a decision had to be made early before start of play, at that time with the frozen greens and a layer of snow on top it was the sensible decision, so no Club Stableford was played! Unfortunately the Team Challenge was also hit by the course being closed on Saturday, so these matches will be rescheduled for another date, as yet there is no information on when they are to be played.
However the Weekly Challenge was played during the week and we had two golfers sitting at the top of the leader board with 40 points a piece, in that situation we go to the traditional method of seperating their scores…. a countback! The result was Alan McCartney was this weeks winner and Andy Mathews took the runner-up position, well done to both players but unlucky for Andy who got pipped at the post…. there can only be one winner!
The Indoor Golf Competition was played at Hoggs Bar on Thursday evening, as usual there was plenty of humour on the night and no lack of effort in both the putting and nearest the pin competitions. The first nearest the pin hole was won by Graham Buckley… only 7 feet away! The winning shot on the second nearest the pin hole was even closer, just 5’8″…. well done Sam Jenkins! The best putter on the night was none other than Jason Wilson who was very steady and missed very little, he was also in the mix on the the nearest the pin holes too but beaten by better shots on the night. Just a word about our recent AGM, on behalf of the members of Loughgall Golf Club I would like to welcome our new Club Captain Eddie Millar to the hot seat. I have no doubts that our captain will be exceptional in the role leading this club forward to bigger and better things under his stewardship, Im sure he will have a pleasant word and a smile on his face while enjoying every moment of his 2015 captaincy, good luck and enjoy your year! Congratulations also to Stephen Wilson who has stepped into the Vice-Captain role. A welcome to Jason Wilson, Aaron Agg and Davy McRoberts who were elected and in some cases re-elected to the the club council, have a good and effective term as members of our council! A wee reminder…. Hoggs Bar this Thursday at 8pm, its the last chance to compete in the Indoor Golf Competition, come along and have a great time in the last week of this event until next year!
