March is in with a bang…. but not the bang we hoped for, a good covering of snow for most areas instead of the mild conditions we were looking forward to seeing, although we got away with the weekend! Good news, the weather should warm up again for this weekend?
For some people it does not seem to matter what the weather is doing they just keep churning out the big scores, yes we are talking about Dessie Hughes…. 47 points is just a regular round of golf for Dessie and top of the leaderboard appears to have Dessie Hughes name as its default position. There were three players who came in with 45 points, but second place goes to John Allen, Jonathan McNabb had the best gross score and Patrick McCrory was the third of three scores of 45 points…. well done fellas, excellent scoring!
The final indoor golf competition of this winter took place Thursday evening past at Hoggs Bar, the craic was as good as it always is and the rivalry to win still strong amongst all the competitors. There were prizes for the putting and two holes of nearest the pin, hole 1 was 174 yards, hole 2 was just over 100 yards. The outstanding competitor of the evening was without doubt Clive Currie who not only excelled in the putting, barely missing a putt but also was closest to the pin on the first hole, hitting his driver to 13’3′ from the pin on 174 yards hole. So very well done big hitting Clive Currie! The only other winner on the night was Barry Rayner with his superb wedge shot to just 1’9″ from the pin, jaws visibly dropped once the onlookers realised any realistic chance of getting nearest to the pin on this hole had all but evaporated……well done Barry! A big thank you to all who took part in our first indoor golf season, to our hosts/venue Hoggs Bar for their hospitality and not forgetting Evan Simpson who supplied and ran the Sim-Golf technology which proved such a success….. many thanks, we look forward to more of the same next year!
