Saturday saw the Captains Drive competition get underway with a shotgun start, all in all it went very well.  The lucky winners, or should I say the well deserved winners…. were the trio of Simon Wallace and his two understudies Colin Jeffers and Jason Wilson.   At one stage we thought that John Allen’s group were the walkaway winners until someone who was competent with their numeracy spotted a wee error in John’s adding up, elation turned to depression at that moment for John and his not so merrymen, but on the flip side we have those three Musketeer’s Wallace Jeffers and Wilson with the first win of the 2016 season and rightly pleased as punch.  Colin Jeffers was most definitely the top man on the day, he also won the nearest to the captain’s drive, well done Colin it was a good day’s golf!  To finish the day off it was all back to Ronnie and Richard Allen who took charge of the BBQ and made sure no one went hungry and lovely burgers they were too, meanwhile Captain Stephen Wilson broke the news to Mr Allen and all those awaiting the result.  I must clarify that as far as we know there is no connection between Ronnie and Richard Allen who done a sterling job on the BBQ and the fella that can’t add up….that would be John Allen for those of you that didn’t get his name.

The Murder Mystery NI sponsored Weekly Challenge was won by Pat Keegan with 41 points, two points clear of Dessie Hughes who had 39 points and Graham Moore got 3rd place with his 36 points.  This season the Weekly Challenge will be a qualifying event which means we will be playing off the white tees unless otherwise stated.  Anyone who may be wondering why it is now a qualifying event, it’s because competitions have to be fair to all who play in them, therefore handicaps have to be adjusted when someone comes in with a big score or has a bad run of form.  I’m sure at the end of the day that’s what we all would like to see.

Junior 9 hole competition, Saturday 26th March; 1st Daniel Brown, 2nd John Harrison and 3rd Luke Weir.  The player of the month for March was Ben Currie, 2nd Daniel Brown and 3rd John Harrison….. well done lads!

Our hard working Junior convenor has informed me that The Irish Open Skills Challenge is taking place at Greenmount this Saturday 2nd April.  Clive Currie will be taking a 4 man team of juniors to Greenmount, the team is Sam Rainey, Luke Weir, Daniel Brown and Ben Currie.  Wishing the lads all the best for the competition, just enjoy yourselves fellas!  A big thank you to Clive….good luck!

This Saturday’s event is sponsored by the Famous Grouse, the competitions now start in earnest so check your tee times, be there in good time and keep up with the group ahead of you.   If there is more than one hole gap between yourselves and those in front be prepared to call through the group behind if you have been holding them up, speed of play and good manners should prevail whilst on the course.

A numeracy course for adults will be available for all who wish to partake, this Friday in Loughgall, contact John Allen for details….that would be the start of April!

Good luck for the 2016 season and enjoy your golf!
