The weather at the weekend would have suited someone who was a quick change artist, it literally was sunshine and showers, throw in a gust of wind and that just about describes the conditions. Coats on coats off, umbrella’s up and then down again, thats what was happening in my fourball so unless we upset the weather god’s I’m assuming everyone else had the same?
Saturday’s competition was the very popular St Andrews Qualifier and despite the changeable conditions there was some good golf played , none better than Davy McCrory’s round of 44 points, a round of 40 points produced by John Allen was the next best. The best gross score was Johnny McNabb’s round of just two over the course. Very well done fella’s, there will be a list of those eligible to play in the play off against Silverwood GC put up on the club notice board.
The Nutmeg Treasures sponsored Wednesday Sweep is now a qualifying competition and the winner this week is Anthony Ball with 18 points, 2nd also on 18 points but beat on the countback was Noel Cooke and in third place was Seamus Golding with 17 points. As it’s now a qualifying competition there is an adjustment to handicap shots recieved for the 9 hole event so don’t be alarmed if the points score appears different when entering scores into the computer.
The results of the Junior section: In the 18 hole event the best score was Ben Currie’s 36 points playing off a 25 h.cap, runner-up was Daniel Brown with 34 points playing off a 32 h.cap and John Harrison playing off 21 scored 24 points and came third. A good win for Ben and John Harrison had the only two on the 5th…..very well done fellas!
Good news for the Ulster fourball…. Mannan Castle failed to turn over the lead previously acquired by Loughgall at Mannan Castle. Although the Mannan Castle team certainly gave us cause for concern as they notched up the first two wins at Loughgall before our lads produced the goods in the remainder of the matches. So team captain John Currie takes his team through to the next round, good win fella’s!
Please check the club notice board for upto date information and please ensure your singles and doubles are played on time, failure to arrange matches early is often the cause for problems getting them played on time and may well get you put out of the competition!
Good luck and enjoy your golf!
