Two weeks of competitions to cover this week so we will get straight on with the details.

William Camblin had an easy win in the Murder Mystery NI sponsored Weekly Challenge on the 12th April, 46 points was his winning score… a full 8 points better than his nearest opposition which was the round of 38 points produced by Dessie Hughes.  Alan McCartney also had 38 points but beat into 3rd place on the countback.  The best gross score was that of Pat Keegan, well done Pat, also William, Dessie and Alan!

In this weeks Murder Mystery NI sponsored Weekly Challange another convincing win, this time Cecil Brownlee produced the goods… 45 points was 5 shots better than Davy McRoberts score of 40 points which put him in 2nd place.  Stephen Magill came 3rd with a points score of 38.  It’s good to see Keith Johnston back in the prizes, Keith who currently holds the course record score at Loughgall had the best gross score of the competition, well done Keith, Cecil, Davy and Stephen!

Last weeks Saturday competition was the PGA Stroke event, a popular and well supported competition and an excellent notch on your belt should you be fortunate to win.  Well Alan Mills can put another notch on his belt with his gross score of 87, less his handicap of 19 giving him the winning nett score of 68.  A very steady round of golf and steady is exactly what you have to be to do well in a stroke event.  Alan has been known to produce the goods every now and then, a decent player with a handicap of 19 will always be in with a chance in any competition…. well done mate!  Kevin McCoy was just 2 shots behind and took 2nd place, one shot further behind was Alan Magill in 3rd place.  The best gross score was that of Jamie Mulholland with a round of 74.  Well done Jamie, Alan, Kevin and Alan!

Saturday past was the Trustees sponsored event, another well established competition in the LGC calender, the best points score of the day was 43 by Sean McCann 3 points better than Nelson Weir who had 40 points, just beating Ian Gordon into 3rd on a countback.  The best gross was scored by Jonny McNabb, 6 over par!

Section winners were Liam McArdle 0-12, James O’Hagan 13-18, Robert Mawhinney 19+, front nine was won by Sam Jenkins, back nine by our Club Captain Eddie Millar.  The best senior score was had by Walter Beattie.  Well done all those in the prizes and better luck next time to the rest of us!  Just a word of caution, its always worth checking your clubs before going out on the course, ask our Honorary Secretary who was left red faced….it took a jog and a few minutes to retrieve his putter from the starters hut and back to the 1st green.  Good job he had understanding playing partners.

The Ulster Cup team captain Clive Currie took his team to play Arminnan Golf Club and came away with what looks like a very good victory…5-2, but remembering its only one halfway as they have to play back at Loughgall on Sunday 10th May.  Well done fellas, now we need another performance like that here at Loughgall to see us through this round, but it’s all ahead of you… no complacency!

There’s a big weekend of golf coming up with the Apple Blossom Open, check the fixture list for all the details!  Also check the notice board for singles and doubles competitions… take note of who and when you are playing.  There is a date it has to be played by, do not leave it until the last week to arrange your match, if you go past the “to be played by date” your are at risk of being put out the competition.  Make contact with your opponent asap, especially doubles as they are often more tricky to get arranged!

Good luck and enjoy your golf!
