This week our Saturday competition was a strokeplay event kindly sponsored by Coote Concrete. I’m sure most people know that strokeplay competitions are generally preferred by the mid to low handicap golfers because of the consistancy of the golf they usually produce. However it’s not entirely true and this week proves that a good higher handicap golfer in form is very hard to beat, at this point we should mention the winner of the Coote Concrete strokeplay event was Dessie Hughes and he is most definitely in form. Just check past reports to see the regularity of Dessies success over the winter! I wondered if Dessie could bring the same quality of golf into the new season… he has well and truely answered that question, it looks like normal service is resumed Dessie, well done! In second place John Currie makes an appearance, well done John, is this the first of many this season? Another man in good form and came home in third place was Patrick McCrory, well done Patrick! Jonathan Hewitt the best gross specialist is at it again, well done Jonathan! I would like to think that those fellas I have just mentioned will be in our club teams playing in the various inter-club competitions…. they are just too good not to be. Section winners are M.Dalzell 0-12, N.Holmes 13-18, S.Wallace 19+, front nine N.Weir, back nine B.Farmer and the senior prize goes to Robert Treanor… well done all the prize winners and better luck next time to us wannabe’s.
As I have mentioned the inter-club competitions I can also give an update on the recent Ulster 4ball match played at home against Crossgar. Team captain John Currie has led his team to a 4-1victory and 21 holes up, special mention of Aidie Faulkner and Patrick McCrory who were outstanding in their match, but it’s only half time in reality… we have to play Crossgar at their course and I’m sure it wont be as easy there, good luck fellas!
In the Weekly Challenge sponsored by Murder Mystery NI we have Patrick McCrory once again in 1st place with Nigel Hutchinson taking 2nd spot and Stephen Mullen had the best gross score….well done fellas! I must say this week results have been massively influenced by the golf of Patrick McCrory, very well done mate. The only two men to get the edge on you were Dessie Hughes and John Currie and its no disgrace to be just behind them!
According to Davy McRoberts the juniors are showing a slight increase in numbers, I hope the word is getting out and around that Loughgall Golf Club is a good place to learn and enjoy golf…. so keep telling your friends and relations we are here and they are welcome to bring their children and have fun too!
Good luck and enjoy your golf!
