We are having a wonderful run of good weather and its just what the doctor ordered, more golf, more excercise and fresh air…. even a bit of a tan, it beats sitting infront of the box anyday. It makes golf so much more enjoyable when there is a bit of sun and warmth, people are generally more pleasant and positive too!
As you may have gathered golf at Loughgall Golf Club is good! Confirmation of the Public Courses Competition held at the St Andrews Eden course last week, Adam Kerr had the 2nd best gross score and I believe 3rd overall, from the ladies of Loughgall Lorraine Abbott had a great round acquiring 44 points and winning her section 2nd in that section was Lily McMullan! Very well done those who achieved a placing and the others who were at the event but didn’t reach the prizes unlucky, but from all reports it was a great experience. I know a few of the fellas didn’t manage to get a practice round on the Eden course, from my own experience I am sure they would have been pushing for the prizes if they had managed to have played the course beforehand as their scores were not bad for the first time playing!
Our Club Captain Kevin McCoy played in the Captains Cowdy Competition at Armagh Golf Club recently and came away with 1st prize after scoring 38 points! Well done Captain McCoy, thats the first senior interclub trophy for Loughgall Golf Club, a brilliant result and a new cup for LGC trophy cabinet!
The main competition of the week was the C&G Embroidery sponsored stableford event which was played on the Saturday, there were some excellent scores but the pick of the bunch was Thomas Lavery’s 43 points which has now reduced Thomas’s handicap to 17, close behind in 2nd place is a man hitting good form at the moment Mark Placett with 42 points and now playing of a 7 handicap. Derek Hayes came in with another good score of 40 points to take 3rd place! Best gross score went to Jonny McNabb with a round of 78, well done mate!
Section winners were Davy McRoberts 0-12, Mark Hazely 13-18, Lee Kirrane 19+, front 9 was won by Andy Currie, back 9 was won by Brendan Farmer, well done all the prize winners!
The Weekly Challenge is an excellent competition that allows a competitive round of golf to be played any day of the week except Saturday, usually a decent turnout and this week we have some very good scores recorded. The top score was a round of 45 points by Davy McRoberts giving him the win but also a handicap cut from 12 to 11. William Camblin also had 45 points but beat on the countback, unlucky but you have 2nd place!
