03/03/2012 – 2012 Stableford Event

Looking Forward to The New 2012 Golfing Season at Loughgall Golf Club

The beginning of the new golfing season is imminent and we have a new Captain to steer the ship, JamesO`Hagan is our Captain for 2012 his right hand man and Vice-Captain is Graham Buckley. We have great hopes for the club this season, as we always do but in the hands of the relatively young pairing of Captain O`Hagan and Vice-Captain Buckley we are expecting the young blood to bring in new ideas and an increased level of competence, communication and cooperation in which both the club and the course will benefit. We wish them well in the year ahead and hope it proves to be a most memorable and enjoyable experience for all.

The weather was excellent although a little cooler than we have been used to and those of us that get an early start will have noticed its light when you wake up in the morning, it must be spring! So it was great weather, how did the scores go?

The results of Saturday 3rd March Stableford competition are as follows:
1st place goes to Keith Campbell with 43 points, 2nd Willie McWilliams on 41, 3rd Stephen Wilson also on 41 and the best Gross score goes to Derick Hynes taking just 76 shots.
There were only 3 two`s and they were by Wayne Crawford, Robert Treanor and Adam Kerr.

Well done to all those who took away a prize, I wonder if these players who are showing form early will be able to carry their good form into the beginning of the season…. watch this space!

A slight alteration to the recently published draw for the Team Challenge, Kevin`s Marauders play the Ulster Cup Team and Edenderry play the Holt Shield Lions at a time and date to be arranged by the team captains.

James O`Hagans Captains Drive gets underway on Saturday 10th March with a Shotgun start, make sure you are at the course in good time. You must be on your given tee box 10 mins before the starting call at 9am, allow plenty of time to get to your tee box.
The entry fee will be donated to the Captains Charity, the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

With the start of the season beginning this Saturday a polite reminder about Dress Code. There is a dress code in place, its the same as it has been for sometime now, everyone will be expected to abide by the code, for example no jeans, no football shirts etc,.etc,. if you require clarification on dress code please contact a member of the committee, we will be glad to be of help. Thank you for your cooperation.

Its going to be another great year of golf, good luck and ….Enjoy your golf!

25/02/2012 – 2012 Stableford Event

The weekend supplied us with excellent golfing weather, best of all no rain so the course is starting to take shape again and I think its fair to say most people prefer playing their golf in the better weather.

A mistake was made (my mistake) with last weeks results, they have been amended to show that our good friend Eugene Scullion should have been in 2nd place, my apologies to Eugene and to Davy who had been named as a 2nd place prize winner.

Now to bring us upto date we have the results of Saturday 25th February, did I mention about the same old faces keep showing up?
Take a look at these names….1st Jack Traynor with 48 points! 2nd Alan McCartney 42 points, 3rd Charlie Johnston 39 points and our best gross score was none other than Johnathan McNabb with a 76. Its no surprise as these are amonst a number of regular players who have found their good form early in the year and are generally there or there abouts most weeks, however I am aiming to peak when the season starts (tongue in cheek!).

Sunday 26th we had the eagerly awaited play-off between Kevin`s Marauders and Team2Beat in our Team Challenge competition. It has to be said, that when Kevin the Captain of the Marauders turned up, we were not sure if he had been kidnapped by aliens all night or he had been locked in his own cellar against his will until just before tee off time, either way he made no sense once he started talking ….and talking …….and talking. Anyway the teams were ready and the match was underway on time and in good spirit.
Most matches were very tight affairs even though the points may appear to give a different impression. The final score was Kevin`s Marauders 8….Team2Beat 4. Congratulations to Kevin`s Marauders they go into the final 4 and hard luck Team2Beat. I believe Team2Beat are still trying to get the image of Kevin at that time of the morning out of their head and are worried about any lasting affect it may have on the younger members of the team.

The next matches will take place on Sunday 18th March at 10am, Kevin`s Marauders v Edenderry and… Ulster Cup Team v Holt Shield Lions.

A last reminder for the Captains shotgun start on the 10th March, if your name is not on the sheet asap you wil have missed your chance of playing.

Good luck and ….Enjoy your golf!

18/02/2012 – 2012 Stableford Event

Saturday proved to be a good day for the golf, although it was a bit cold early on there was no rain and the sun came out warming the day quite nicely.

Now for the golf, some good scores were produced again this week with Stephen Wilson topping the pile having scored 47 points, thats a great score, his nearest rival was Davy McRoberts on 44 points with Charlie Johnston third on 42 points. The best Gross score went to Johnathan McNabb with an excellent round of 73.

There were only 4 players getting money (a voucher) for two`s and they were; Keith Campbell, Wayne Crawford, Willie McWilliams and last but definitely not least Eugene Scullion.

I know what most of you are thinking…. its the same old faces, well not all of them are old but they are all on the radar for our super efficient handicap committee and we are only too pleased to see those regulars doing so well….keep it up fellas!

Sunday was another very pleasant day for this time of the year and the last 2 teams to play their second match in the group stage took to the fairways, Kevin`s Marauders against the Holt Shield Tigers. Now this was a tightly contested match but Kevin`s marauders were playing off the higher handicaps and they played well making their shots count. There were a number of strong performances on both sides, Derick Hynes & Jonny McKnight scored very well for the Tigers, but the outstanding performance was that of Eddie Millar & Cecil Brownlee of the Marauders, they blew Andy Currie & Michael Connor away in their singles matches. Andy Currie was last seen attempting to lose Eddies 9 wood, apparently its the next best thing to Harry Potters wand. The score at the end of the day was 8.5 to Kevin`s Marauders and 3.5 to the Holt Shield Tigers.

Well done to all that took part and especially to Kevin`s Marauders who are now in the playoff with Team2Beat. This takes place on Sunday 26th February at 9am.

Good luck to both teams, its going to be another fiercely contested match. Enjoy your golf!

11/02/2012 – 2012 Stableford Event

A Busy Weekend of Golf at Loughgall

Saturday 11th February brought us some reasonably good golfing weather which enabled the Stableford Competition to be played (last week the greens were frozen…no play). This time of the year can often mean a shortened course, but at least we are out and playing.

It was no great surprise to see some high scores this week, the best adult score was Wayne Crawford with 45 points, second Keith Campbell with 44 and also on 44 but beat on the countback was Jonny McKnight in third position. The Gross went to Johnathan McNabb taking just 70 shots in his round of golf. Only two 2s this week, they go to Jack Traynor and Jonny McKnight.
The best points score on the course was by Jack Traynor with 47 points, however Jack is still a juvenile and wins his section of the competition, but watch out for him once he is eligable for the main prizes. Well done to jack and all the prize winners.

Now to the Team Challenge. Last week there were two matches played on Sunday, Team2Beat were beaten 6.5-5.5 by the Ulster Cup Team and the Captains Team were beaten 7.5-4-5 by the Holt Shield Lions.
Sunday 12th February had 3 matches being contested, the Ulster Cup Team won 9.5-2.5 against the Holt Shield Select. Edenderry won 8-4 against Kevins Marauders and the Holt Shield Lions won 10-2 against The Freshmen.

The remaining match to be played between Holt Shield Tigers and Kevins Marauders will be played this Sunday and the play-off match between the two highest runners-up will be played the following Sunday 26th February.

Total points to date;

Edenderry……………….. 15.5
Holt Shield Tigers…… 4.5
Kevins Marauders….. 4

Holt Shield Lions……… 17.5
The Freshmen…………. 9.5
Captains Team……….. 9

Holt Shield Select……. 9.5
Ulster Cup Team…….. 16
Team2Beat…………….. 11

Keep an eye on the notice board and check our website to keep fully informed and upto date with all the events and the run up to the beginning of the 2012 season.

Our AGM is at Kilmore Parish Hall, 28th February at 8pm, please make every effort to attend, your presence is always welcome, the more people we hear from at the meeting the better we can serve you as members of the club.

Enjoy your golf!

04/02/2012 – 2012 Stableford Event

Saturday golf….a thaw point!

Well I am sure most of you know why the course was closed on Saturday, incase you dont it was the greens that were frozen and the rain was not seeping through, to play the course would have meant putting through puddles of water. It would have done harm to the greens and was the correct decision to make.

Week 2 of the Team Challenge did go ahead on Sunday and it turned out to be quite a pleasant day…. weather wise that is. As for the golf it really depends if you were on the winning side.
The Ulster Cup team captained by Clive Currie was playing Team2Beat and although it was a very closely contested match Team2Beat was beat 6.5-5.5. A missed putt or two was all the difference between winning and losing, well done Clive and his team and hard luck Team2Beat and their captain Barry.

The other match was between The Captains Team with Davy Coote as their captain and Holt Shield Lions whose captain Jason Wilson was sitting on the sidelines allowing his picks to do the business on the course. A result of 4.5-7.5 in favour of the Lions would suggest Jason obviously picked his team well, I believe Jason was very pleased with a number of his players performances. Well done Jason and his Lions and hard luck to Davy and his team, it seems they were playing against a team in great form.

Saturdays course closure affected the Team Challenge as there were matches arranged that could not get played, these matches will have to be played as soon as possible to avoid any backlog of fixtures running into the beginning of the season in March, so those captains involved will need to get together and organise the re-match.

Enjoy your golf!

28/01/2012 – 2012 Stableford Event

The weekend has seen both the Saturday Stableford Competition and the start of the Team Challenge, so there has been much activity and despite the poor weather some good scores posted.
So to the Stableford Competition held on Saturday 28th January, the winner and 4 points clear of the field with an excellent 48 points was Willie McWilliams, apparently Willie reckons he can get down to single figures this year if the tee markers are kept where they are now.

Second place goes to Jonny McKnight with 44 points and 3rd was Willie Crozier with 43 points.
Once again we see the name of Derick (festa) Hynes creeping into into the prizes with the best Gross score of 74 strokes and thats playing off his new handicap, we never doubted he could play off 7 …. I think there may be a little more trimming to be done yet?

There were only 4 two`s and they were by Wayne Crawford, Charlie Johnston, Jonny McKnight and Lee Stewart. Very well done to all the prize winners!

Our notice board is one of the main ways we keep you informed as to what is happening in the club and this time of the year there will be plenty of information, please check regularly to keep upto date.

The Captains Drive will be on the 10th march, you will find the a sheet on the notice board for those interested in playing that day, make sure you have your name on it.

Entry fees should be paid prior to playing your round. Make sure your card is signed by yourself and the person marking your card and it is correct before posting in the box.

The Team Challenge saw a big turnout on Sunday, six teams awaiting the opportunity to take on their opponents. After a slow start to proceedings the golf got underway and was fiercely contested. Even though the course had suffered at the hands of the weather which at times made the round hard work, there were some sterling performances.

The results of week 1; Edenderry 7.5 v Holt Tigers 4.5
Holt Select 6.5 v Team2Beat 5.5
The Freshmen 7.5 v Captains Team 4.5

Weather permitting, week 2 of the competition continues next week, after week 3 we will know three of the teams going through and the two teams who have to play-off for the 4th and final place to reach the next round of the competition. Enjoy your golf!

21/01/2012 – 2012 Stableford Event

The course was in pretty good condition over the weekend compared to a few weeks ago, although you still need to watch your footing in some places.

There was some good scores produced and best of the day was Willie McWilliams with 41 points, closely followed by Barry Rayner and Wayne Crawford also on 41 but beat on the countback.
The best front 9 went to Jonny McKnight and the best back 9 goes to Derick Hynes. Jason Wilson has started to hit some form and produced the best Gross score of the day, just 75 shots.

There were a number of 2s and they were achieved by; D.Hynes, J.McKnight, D.McRoberts, S.Mills, B.Rayner and B.Teague.

Well done to the above mentioned prize winners

There were several people disqualified because they had not completed their scorecard correctly.

Your card must have….

1) Name of competition.
2) Date.
3) Time.
4) Your Name.
(Any information written on the scrorecard must be clear and legible.)

If you put an incomplete scorecard into any competition at any other club the result will be the same. This info is needed to ensure everything is kept honest and above board, this is a requirement of the GUI and every other governing body in golf around the world.

We will see the start of the Team Challenge this weekend and I know it has been eagerly awaited. There is a lot to be played for and a huge amount of pride and ego on the line, so good luck to all, I hope your best is good enough!

Please remember to pay your competition entry fee before playing….£10 per player. Talk to your Team Captain for further information. Enjoy your golf!

14/01/2012 – 2012 Stableford Event

Glad to see more people entering the competition, the numbers were almost double the week before and hopefully there will be more next week as people become aware that there is nearly always a competition held on the Saturday regardless of the time of year.

Always take a look in the back office area and check the computer and notice board before going out to play your round. The day you don’t enter could be the day you play really well, as my playing partner will find out from this report, no names but he is an ex-driving instructor and had 40 points!

The Winner of January Saturday 14th competition was Stephen Mills on 40 points, 2nd Robert Treanor with 39 points and 3rd Keith Campbell with 37 points, well done fellas!
Only 3 people got a 2, that was Davy Coote, Eddie Millar and Robert Treanor.

The team challenge will be starting soon, the draw should be taking place this weekend. This event is played on a Sunday, so if you are in a team make sure you have your £10 entry fee paid before the competition starts, contact your team captain for further information about your team.

Once again check the notice board regularly for upcoming events etc. Enjoy your golf!

07/01/2012 – 2012 Stableford Event

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year, 2012 is going to be even better than last year, more golf, more competition and if possible more close run finishes.

First of all, incase anyone is unsure there will be a club stableford competition run every Saturday until the start of the season unless otherwise stated.

Please remember to do the usual log in to the computer before going out to play your round, put your entry fee in an envelope making sure your details on the front and pop it through the letter box on our office door. Equally important, your score card must be correctly filled in and posted in the box after your score has been entered into the computer.

The winner of this weeks competition was Willy McWilliams with 45 points and was 2nd Raymond Henry with 42 points. Walter Beattie, Eugene Scullion and Willy McWilliams each had a 2.

The amount of payouts is directly related to the numbers entering the competition, so the more the merrier!

Those of you that have been checking the notice board will be aware that entry sheets have already been put up for singles, doubles and the section knockout competitions. This to give anyone interested plenty of time to get their name on the sheets and get their money paid. I know there were a number of people who felt they missed out on these competitions last year, we want as many people to enter these events as possible and hope this year no one wanting to play will miss the opportunity. However if you dont have your money paid you will not go into the draw….dont miss out this time! Please check notice board for details.
