Captains Drive Team Competition

Captains Drive Team Competition

A Shotgun start for the first competition of the official season

Saturday’s “Captains Drive” team competition started with a bang, actually it was an airhorn….. but it meant everyone started on the stroke of 9am. At each of the 18 tee boxes a 3 or 4 man team was awaiting the signal, the best two points score at each hole was recorded with the points doubled on the 9th & 18th. Each player drives off and the best drive is used with the other team members playing their 2nd shot from that position, each player must have a minimum of 4 drives used. Players were randomly drawn keeping an equal share of high and low handicappers in each team.

Its a way of getting people to mix with other members who they otherwise may never play with, we do this every year, perhaps thats why we are such a friendly and welcoming club.

The winning team was; Adam Kerr, Jack Traynor, Willie Turner and Charlie Johnston with a score of 106 points, there were several teams very close behind them but none better than 106, very well done fellas give yourselves a pat on the back it was an excellent team effort…. oh and bye the way you are now on the radar of the handicap secretary!

The money raised by this competition will be donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, a sum of £240. The Charity has been chosen by our new Club Captain James O`Hagan, we wish him well in his year.

On Friday past, Loughgall played Tandragee in the 1st round of the Daily Mail All Ireland pairs competition, our Champion pairing of Joel Kennedy & Richard Wright took on the best of Tandragee, the venue was Loughgall and we beat them 5&4 finishing with an eagle on the 14th. Very well done to Joel & Richard Im glad to see you have continued where you left off and extended your unbeaten run. We always knew you were going to be hard to beat, good luck in your next draw.

This Saturday 17th March the competition will be a Stableford Event, we look forward to a high turnout as many people will treating it as a holiday anyway so why not get your golf played in the morning and celebrate later on in the day if thats your intention?
The first sponsored event will be the Famous Grouse on the following Saturday 24th March.

Remember to get your green fees paid by the end of March, someone will be at the course early on Saturdays to take any monies and give out 2012 member stickers.

Enjoy your golf
