What has happened to our summer, a stretch of weeks or months where there is little rain but an abundance of warmth and sunshine…. that’s generally what is expected of summer! The definition needs changed….. if we were talking about goods, the supplier would get done under the trades description act or consumer rights. It is a misrepresentation of the meaning of the term summer. Enough of the weather, no more rants we shall move on to the golf.
Saturday’s competition was sponsored by JMB Coaches Ltd and had good numbers entering the event, we had a clear winner and well deserved too. A winning score of 44 points, Jim Cunningham playing off an 18 h.cap played superb golf all around the course and looked more like a very good 10 handicapper, I know Jim was hoping to get his h.cap down… well his wish has come true he is now off a 16 h.cap, well done Jim! I only mentioned just a week or so ago how steady a player *Eugene Scullion is, he rarely has any disaster scores, 40 points gets Eugene 2nd place! Colin Jeffers had a good show this week, 39 points was good enough to get him 3rd place. The best gross was produced by Keith Johnston just 2 over the course and Seamus Golding had the best score from a senior player. The section winner were John Allen 0-12, Stephen Mills 13-18, Jonathan Agnew 19+, front nine was Patrick McCrory and the back nine went to Simon Wallace.
The Weekly Challenge sponsored by Murder Mystery NI was won with a score of 39 points by Andy Matthews, also on 39 points but beat on the countback was Willie Gracey, unlucky Willie but a good win for Andy. Just one point behind Alan Magill was 3rd on 38 points!
The Junior 18 hole competition was won with an excellent score of 40 points by Ben Currie, Nathan Agg came 2nd with 27 points and also got the only two! Daniel Brown also on 27 points was just pushed into 3rd place on the countback. Well done lads!
*If you check the master scoreboard on the website everyone’s scores are there and you can view every competition that’s been played, it also shows the best and worst scores produced by a player on each hole, it makes surprising and interesting reading if you are into facts. It would be a good tool for making a decision on who will play for the club in inter club competitions… especially on the home leg…?
Please check out Club News on the website this week as there is important info regarding the increased opportunity to play Foursomes. I’m sure most of you will have noticed the Foursomes competition on the computer, well this is because the Jimmy Bruen Event will be held at Loughgall Golf Club early next season. We need to make sure we have enough people playing this format to give ourselves an excellent opportunity of getting through to the next round. It’s an opportunity and an honour to be given the chance to host the visiting teams and we need to be prepared. Jason Wilson will be our Jimmy Bruen team captain next season so any questions you need answered will be best directed to Jason who will be more than happy to help… Check Club News!
Good luck and…. Enjoy your golf!
