The weather has not been at it’s very best but a day with no rain is generally considered to be a good day when you live in Northern Ireland.  Strangely enough most other places in the world would consider a good day to include plenty of sunshine and fairly warm temperatures, however we have had some good weather in spells, so we will just make the most of what we get… as we do here!

We have four stand out performances amongst several excellent displays of golf in the various events over the past week or so, we will start with Saturday’s competition which was a club stableford event.    A well attended event with some very good scores being produced, but none better than the winner Nelson Weir, 48 points for his round of golf was an exceptional round, that’s 3 over the course and 6 shots better than the very good card produced by Davy McAdam who had 42 points.  In  3rd place was Cecil Brownlee who is in fine form at the moment and only just beaten on the countback.  The best gross score of the day was that of Davy McCrory who went around in 77 shots!  Section winners were Jackson Ruddoch 0-12, Captain Eddie Millar 13-18, Mark Gomba 19+, front 9 was won by Stuart Eagle and the back by Jonathan Faulkner.  Colin Jeffers had the best senior score.  There were 8 two’s recorded.  Well done to all those in the prizes!

The Weekly Challenge sponsored by Murder Mystery NI also had a decent turnout this week and the winner is our very own Captain Eddie Millar, one of two people on 41 points.  The other person on 41 points but beaten on the countback is Captain Eddie Millar’s good friend and playing partner Cecil Brownlee, unlucky Cecil.  Third place with 39 points was Edwin Atkinson.  There were three 2s by Aaron Agg, Nelson Weir and Alan McCartney… well done fella’s!

The Wednesday Sweep sponsored by Nutmeg Treasures is a 9 hole qualifying event and the winner is ….Captain Eddie Millar on 18 points, in 2nd place also on 18 points was Rodney Clarke beaten on the countback, Anthony Ball came 3rd on 17 points!  There were no two’s recorded.

The Junior 18 Hole Competition was won by Nathan Agg with a superb 46 points and now cut from 24 to a 21 handicap, 2nd was Ben Currie with a great score of 40 points and cut one shot down to a 25 h.cap.  Third was Daniel Brown with 28 points… well done lads!

The 1st of the Junior Summer Sweeps was played on Thursday with Daniel Brown the winner!  Well done Daniel!

The St Andrews Qualifier was played last Sunday at Silverwood Golf Course, only one of our lads earned their place to play at St Andrews despite some decent scores.  Unsurprisingly it’s the man who has been ripping the course up with his improved form and heading the top of the player of the year stats…. Noel Cooke (Nelsons super score on Saturday may just have nudged Noel out of the top spot…Not calculated yet?) has booked his place on the plane to play in the competition at St Andrews!

The four outstanding performances of the past week in no particular order are Nelson Weir’s 48 points and 3 over the course, Captain Eddie Millar’s double wins and a placing, Nathan Agg’s excellent 46 points in the junior section and Noel Cooke earning his position in the St Andrews competition.  Congratulations to all four of you, you deserve your rewards!

Please note …. Monday 27th July at 6pm…. a DIVOT REPAIR EVENING will be taking place and lets hope we have a few more willing hands than on the previous occasion.  Your help is greatly appreciated and makes light work of the job in hand, please make the effort its only a couple of hours when enough people turn up, its your course and it will be beneficial to you as well as others!

Good luck and enjoy your golf!
