Everything seems nicer when the sun shines and a golf course is no exception, we do need the rain but most of us golfers are hoping it rains at night and shines during the day…. I dont think thats too unreasonable? Loughgall is playing great at the moment and the entry numbers to the competitions have been very healthy too… no real surprise that one follows the other. Well done Loughgall Country Park grounds persons for their efforts and not forgetting the importance of our reception staff!
The Wednesday Sweep sponsored by Nutmeg Treasures which is our 9 hole stableford competition that runs through the summer months and always a popular event was won by Nelson Weir. I believe thats the second win for Nelson in as many weeks, well done Nelson if you keep making the headlines you are likely to get your own column…..? The Weekly Challenge has also proved to be a popular event and was won by Pat Keegan with Stephen Mills as runner-up! Good win Pat! The winner of the Sunday Sweep from the previous week was Aaron Agg….Mr Agg to his friends, well acquaintances. Aaron is always a very steady player and never too far away from the prizes, somewhat cautious…. he has been known to use the green cross code when moving from the living room to the kitchen?
The Fred Daly Qualifying Event was played on Saturday, a strokeplay format with a good turnout in excellent conditions. A three-way tie for first place all with a nett 65, Stephen Graham, Paul Hughes and Jonathon Agnew… their scores had to go to a countback! Twenty five handicapper Jonathon Agnew took 1st place with his round of 90, Paul Hughes playing off a 17 handicap came 2nd with his round of 82 and Stephen Grahams 76 was the best gross score of the day! Great scoring! It was very nearly a four-way tie, Noel Holmes came third with an excellent round of 79, his 13 handicap gives him a nett 66, you cant keep a good man down…. well done Noel!
