The last competition of the official golfing season has been played, the weather turning good for the final couple of weeks or so, but don’t build your hopes up for much more in the way of warmth and sunshine, any reasonable weather now is a real bonus. The Saturday event was a Club Stableford which turned out to be an excellent competition for Davy McAdam, a superb 43 points for Davy finishes the season off to perfection and no doubt a reduction in his handicap to go with it, a single figure h.cap is coming your way! Our resident Vice-Captain Stevie Wilson has also finished the season off nicely with a round of 42 points to take 2nd place just pushing Sean McCann into 3rd on a countback. The best gross score was Sam Jenkins round of 76! The best senior score was Kevin McCoy’s points score of 38. Section winners were Noel Holmes 0-12, Kevin Keegan 12-18, William Stewart 19+, young Rodney Clarke took the front nine and Jonathon Faulkner claimed the back nine….well done all those in the prizes!
The Weekly Challenge sponsored by Murder Mystery NI was won by Stuart Eagle with 43 points, it’s good to see another win under his belt after the big win earlier in the season, well done Stuart! Never too far away in this event is Stephen Mullen but his 40 points could only get him 2nd place this time. Andy Matthews and Patrick Keegan both had 38 points but Andy got the nod on this occasion after the countback, 3rd place for Andy… unlucky Pat.
The Junior 9 hole competition was won by Daniel Brown closely followed by Ben Currie, 3rd was Nathan Ewert. The 6 hole competition was won by Ryan Lavery….well done lads!
This years Winter League is once again kindly sponsored by Armagh Potato Company but this year it’s a singles event which runs from Sunday to Saturday and is up and running from 4th October. In previous years there was a strong team emphasis, however it’s only yourselves you have to worry about now, it also means you can’t be carried by your team because… you are the team. Just pay each week when entering the competition, if you cannot make it one week you are not letting anyone down and you get value for money cos you pay as you go!
The clubhouse has not been forgotten, we are in the process of acquiring and making ready a suitable building for our immediate, short/medium term purposes, hopefully this will be up and running as soon as possible.
Good luck and enjoy your golf!
