There is a certain amount of surprise and concern regarding the results this week, we have checked and double checked but we cant appear to find the name of Dessie Hughes anywhere in the prizes, if this is an oversight on our part we would like to offer Dessie our sincerest apologies. It is quite possible he has decided to allow other golfers an opportunity to be in the prizes before the start of the season as he has had a very successful winter, all joking aside…. very well done Dessie! The official golfing season starts on the 28th March with the Captains Drive…. thats at the starters hut for 8am to be ready for the shotgun start at 8.30 sharp, make sure your name is on the list on the notice board if you wish to play, otherwise you may miss out!
We have a final between Stephen Mullen’s Ulster Cup Select team and Willie Young Ones….captained by Raymond Henry, both teams have shone out in their respective groups and have fully justified their place in the Team Challenge final which is this Sunday, good luck to both teams its going to be a great final!
The results from the Weekly Challenge are as follows…. 1st Patrick McCrory with 41 points, Graham Moore was 2nd scoring 40 points and Evan Simpson took best gross!
Saturdays Club Stableford was won by Sean McCann with an excellent 44 points, Evan Simpson has had a good week after taking the gross in the weekly challenge his score of 42 points gives him 2nd place just beating James Curren into 3rd after a countback and Jonathan Hewitt has continued with his staple diet of best gross score! Very well done fellas, Im sure we shall see a few more different names cropping up as we get greater numbers entering the competitions, which should happen as the better weather arrives with the start of the season…. at least thats what we hope!
I would like to mention the continuous efforts of Davy McRoberts aided by our club pro Vivian Teague for their enthusiasm and dogged determination to help bring along the youngsters at Loughgall Golf Club, each week they show them the basics of golf and encourage them as they progress. They dont get enough praise for their efforts but they are making a difference and thanks are due…. well done Davy & Viv and ofcourse the youngsters!
Im pleasantly surprised to see the amount of names of members who are interested in the possibilities of LGC having some form of clubhouse. In the occasional conversations I’ve had with our members a good amount have said they intend to sign their name on the list but just have not got around to it yet, but would welcome the opportunity and use the premises should the club council/committee act upon the list of names supporting this. Which suggests there are still more names to go on the list….. but if you are for the idea then put pen to paper, before this opportunity is taken away. Ofcourse if you are not in favour do not sign.
So we have been looking forward to the start of the season and its almost here, we have our new captain Eddie Millar and our new vice-captain Stephen Wilson…. Im sure they will enjoy their time in the hot seats and do a great job. Our President Kevin Keegan is starting his 2nd year in office and a busy year its going to be for him, but he is the right man in the right place and we wish him well for the upcoming season! I would like to thank our recent past captain Kevin McCoy who went about his business with the minimum of fuss and was always willing and available no matter what came up he dealt with the situation. A successful captain, a very helpful person and a pleasure to work with, good luck in 2015.
Do remember your club fees need paid, if you want to play in the first competition then make sure you pay before March 28th….!
Good luck and enjoy your golf!
