Thursday was an extremely damp day… thats obviously a understatment as the following day the 2nd fairway was just 25% grass the rest was a flood plain, Saturday the course was open!  It is hard to believe the course could absorb that amount of water and be playable so soon after such a deluge.  Credit has to go to the continual improvement over the years by Armagh Council and Loughgall Country Park.

Year upon year their efforts to improve the drainage around the course have given us the durable golf course we have today.  I’m sure more improvements are already in the pipeline….. its no wonder our course is being talked about favourably by those who visit us, we have an excellent course and with the dedicated groundsmen at Loughgall it can only get better!

Now to the rounds of note in week 6 of the Armagh Potato Company sponsored winter league, Patrick McCrory came in with a score of 47 points and no one even close…5

shots behind in second place was Davy McRoberts on 42 points!  Stephen Wilson was third with 41points beating Clive Currie and John Allen also with scores of 41 points on a countback, good scoring fellas.  Andy Currie had the best gross score of the week shooting 4 over the course, well done Andy!  There were 8 two’s recorded and one of the two’s was by Jim McCrory….on the first hole, that does not happen too often.  Well done Jim!

The annual Loughgall Golf Club quiz-night was held on Friday past in Hoggs Bar and although it has been quite well supported in previous years this year we coincided with Children in Need and the Famous Grouse had a Garth Brooks tribute act.  It could have been worse but for the Ladies of LGC who changed their prize night to another evening and swelled the numbers at the quiz instead.  The quiz was a great success, 10 teams of 5 and 6 players, plenty of banter and a very closely fought competitive quiz which was won by our current captain Kevin McCoy and his team! The evening raised £330 for charity.  Many thanks to Hoggs Bar who are always so obliging and kept the food supplied to everyone who came to the quiz, Paddy Morgan for a great job as the marker/checker, Club President Kevin Keegan and Club Captain Kevin McCoy for their support!  A big thanks to all who came and took part in a very enjoyable evening!

Good luck and enjoy your golf!
