Saturday’s competition had a 30% chance of being affected by showers but all in all we mostly got away with a decent day of golfing. As always the turnout was good and very competitive, the top three nett scores finished on the same score so they had to be separated by means of a countback to find our winner on the day. The winner playing off a 22 handicap and shooting a gross 89 was Mark Gilpin, taking his 22 h.cap away gives you his winning nett score of 67…. well done Mark but very unlucky Stephen O’Connor and Adrian Simpson who both narrowly missed out on 1st place, Stephen and Adrian took 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Adrian in particular has had some success already with multiple wins since the start of 2013, his continued good form has just taken him down to a 12 h.cap from his previous handicap of 14. Stephen was a multiple winner last season with back to back wins so it just shows that a return to form can be just around the corner. Well that’s what most of us like to believe and that’s what keeps bringing us back time and time again, but the day belongs to Mark Gilpin winner of the Fred Daly Memorial Trophy qualifier…. well done!
The best gross prize goes to Adam Kerr once again with a round of 74! Section winners were Johnny McNabb 0-12, Glen Vennard 13-18, Michael Ballintine 19+, front 9 Clifford Ewart and back 9 was won by Darren Wilson. Best senior score goes to Denis Glass with a nett 71. There were ten 2s recorded and they were by James Cunningham, Brendan Morgan, Brian Teague, Stephen Wilson, Kevin McCoy, Mark Placitt, Kris Hunniford, Adam Kerr, Barry Rayner and last but not least captain Graham Buckley! Very well done to all those who won a prize and a big thank you to everyone who turned out, it’s the depth of competition that makes the event what it is, anyone that does well when the entry numbers are many has much to be proud of..! No one is just going out to make the numbers up, it’s about enjoying the game, the company and doing the best you can do on that day. A wee word to anyone that thinks they can manipulate their handicap, if at anytime you don’t give your best shot or less than your full attention throughout your round of golf for whatever reason…. you will never know if you could have produced that special low score. Even if your score does not seem good you don’t know what is ahead of you, that run of birdies and pars can come at anytime? So give your best for the full 18 holes and you will not miss that round of a lifetime whenever that may be… and it also creates a level playing field as everyone’s handicap will reflect their true ability at that moment in time!
Good luck and enjoy your golf!
