Loughgall Golf Clubs Presidents Day took place on saturday past and what a day it was, great golf, great spirit and excellent hospitality! James was our very first captain and then as our club grew he became the obvious choice to be the very first President of Loughgall Golf Club. James has never done anything but good deeds in his time in office, his guidance has kept the club on the straight and narrow, without James efforts the club would be a poorer place in just about every sense. As his time in the position as President nears its completion the thanks of all the members of our special wee club goes out to the very worthy James Hewitt for all he has done… Thank you!
The weather was good and some great performances were produced on a very big golfing day, nerves played a part in many a round but a number of people kept it all together. Even the excellent burgers and refreshments served up by Davy Coote between the 11th and 12th tee box didnt distract the focused few! James Hewitts mobile refreshment centre(a potential side line there James?) which meandered around the course to those needing some dutch courage and a kind word didnt seem to adversely affect those golfers in the zone! The results are as follows….. winner of Presidents Day 2013 with 45 points… David McRoberts, David was pushed into 2nd place last year in this competition beat on the countback, so the wounds have now been healed with an excellet victory, finally getting his name etched on the trophy…well done mate! Second place on 44 points was a past captain… James O`Hagan with a score that could easily have taken first prize on another day but for Davys excellent score. Harvey Park with 42 points was a very good 3rd place. Kris Hunniford and Stuart Eagle was 4th and 5th respectively with Jamie Mulholland takng the best gross prize! Jonathan Lockhart got the best front nine prize and Spencer Lawson the best back nine! James McSorley had the best junior score! Members longest drive was by Adam Kerr and nearest to the pin was Jamie Wortley!
Winner of the ladies section was Janet Forbes and runner up Fiona Martin!
There were a number of visitors prizes, the mens winner was Mr Eric Hamilton and the ladies winner Ms Gail Steed. Visitors longest drive H.Johnston and closest to the pin was Wayne Haffey!
Congratulations to all those in the prizes, very well done! Unlucky to the rest of us who tried but didnt quite achieve the results we hoped for.
Just a word of mention about the St Andrews Qualifier played at Silverwood Golf Course recently, well done Cormac Toner and Jonathon Faulker who have earned their place at St Andrews, its an experience you will most definitely enjoy!
