The final competition of the official season as we know it was won by Anthony Ball, although everyone knows Anthony as Alan. I know that is a little confusing but Anthony grew up at the time when Alan Ball… the famous footballer from yesteryear was at the height of his fame. So that is why he gets called Alan and as far as I know Anthony`s own football skills were never mistaken for Alan Ball the footballer?
Back to the golf, Alan was playing off a 17 h.cap, but now cut a shot since his nett score of 66 was just enough to win the competition, after a countback which beat Simon Wallace into 2nd place! That’s very unlucky for Simon because earlier in the year Simon had missed out in exactly the same circumstances, having the same score but lost on the countback. However it shows his form is good and gets cut down to a 19 h.cap coming up to the start of the winter league.
Third place went to Darren Wilson whose nett 70 was good enough to earn Darren a cut from 13 to a 12 h.cap!
Young Alan Magill took the prize for the best gross score with a round of 81, that’s quite high compared to most of the previous competitions, but I am sure Alan will be more than happy to pick up the prize. The best senior score was that of Willie McWilliams who always seems to be there or there abouts?
Section winners were Neil Walker 0-12, Stephen Thompson 13-18, Sam Duffy 19+, front 9 goes to Graham Moore and the back 9 was won by Brian Adair! There were a number of 2s recorded, twelve to be precise and they were by Barry Rayner, Christopher Campbell, Adrian Faulkner, Raymond Henry, Alan Magill, Johnathan McNabb, Nicholas Salley, Darren Wilson, Michael Ballintine, Simon Wallace and a brace from David Chadwick. Well done all those who were in the prizes and better luck for all those that did not feature. The winter league is about to start so you will have plenty of opportunities to shine in the forthcoming weeks. It starts on the 6th October, if you have not got your name down or paid your entry fee I would advise you to contact a member of the golf club committee/council asap or you may well have missed out!
Another reminder for those of you who would like to play in the Team Challenge, this will begin shortly after the winter league finishes, but you must put your name on the sheet provided on the club notice board. There will be a cut-off point when we have enough names entered on the sheet to fill the teams… so don’t put it off because the sooner your name is on the sheet the more likely you will be playing? Don’t be late and miss out!
Davy Coote, Lyn Coote and Janet Forbes played in the Public Courses Competition at St Andrews last week and it was a decent performance from all three of them. Both Davy and Lyn came third in their sections and Janet came third overall, so a very satisfactory result in quite windy conditions. When the wind gets up at St Andrews the degree of difficulty increases considerably, it becomes a very different course so well done Davy, Lyn and Janet a good result and Im sure an experience to remember!
Good luck and enjoy your golf!
