Anyone playing Loughgall at the weekend would have noticed the the campervans parked on the the football pitch, this tells us a couple of things. Firstly no more football being played so it must be the end of the football season and secondly the campervaners (think I have made a new word) are expecting, or at least hoping Loughgall will provide them with pleasant weather….they were not disappointed and neither were the golfers. It makes a big difference to see the sun and play in warmer weather, yes there were some clouds over the weekend but we are in Northern Ireland…. it’s never going to be mistaken for Florida.
On Saturday we had a strokeplay competition sponsored by Cootes Concrete, everyone knows it’s a question of keeping the ball in play in stroke competitions, more so than stableford were a hole with no score does not end your round. Well it seems that Brendan Farmer really has the hang of strokeplay, a nett 62 was good enough to win the competition…by 6 strokes! Second was Walter Beattie with a nett 68 followed by Harry Clougher with a nett 69. The best gross score was that of Jonny Hewitt, just 76 strokes from beginning to end! The best senior score was produced by Norman Stewart, the best score on the front nine was by Davy McCrory and the back nine was David Mitchell our winner from last week….well done fellas!
The Weekly Challenge sponsored by Murder Mystery NI was won by Jack Traynor with an excellent 42 points, two scores of 39 for 2nd and 3rd place by Wayne Crawford and Dessie Hughes respectively.
The Junior 18 hole competition was won by Luke Weir with a great score of 42 points, 2nd was Fintan Walsh with 39 points and Ryan Tennyson taking 3rd spot with 33 points. Well done lads.
Loughgalls Sam Rutherford team played Royal County Down at LGC and won the leg by 6 holes, the return match is this friday at Royal County Down and will need our team to play to their very best to progress through to the next round. If our players get a good start it’s all on!
Unfortunately our Irish Mixed Fousomes team were unsuccessful in their efforts at Newtownstewart and did not progress any further, maybe next year!
John Curries All Ireland fourball team went to Fortwilliam on the 2nd leg and came away with a draw on the day, but a good performance at home a few weeks back made all the difference to the outcome…. Loughgall progress to the next round. Well done JC and the fellas, great result keep it going!
Just a reminder about the Singles and Doubles draw which is on the club notice board, please make contact asap with your opponent and get it played promptly to avoid problems of holidays etc,. we don’t want anyone running out of time and out of the competition.
Please repair any pitch marks you come across when playing the course, we want to keep the greens looking and playing good. Also rakes are best put in the centre of the bunker rather than around the grassed areas alongside, in front or ahead of the bunker.
Apparently there is a heatwave on the way……. so good luck, enjoy your golf and don’t get caught out by the hot weather!
