We got away with reasonable weather for the Saturday competition, but there have been plenty of showers around which is not helping the course dry up and the course really does need to dry up, bearing in mind we are hosting the Jimmy Bruen event which is only weeks away. Our greenkeepers are good, but a little devine intervention would not go amiss, it certainly would allow the progress already being made to the course to continue unabated.
Saturday was the Morgan Transport Stroke Event which was also a qualifying competition for the Irish Open, the man of the moment was indeed our club captain Stephen Wilson who returned a signed scorecard for a nett 64 playing off a 10 h.cap…. well done captain, an excellent round of golf! Leo Quinn came 2nd with a nett 68 off his 26 h.cap just beating Willie Gracey into 3rd place and Evan Simpson into 4th both scoring a nett 68. Marty Dalzell had the best gross score of the day and Drew Willis had the best score by a senior, well done fella’s! Section winners were Davy McAdam 0-11, Jonathan Lockhart 12 -18 and Stephen Mills 19+. Wayne Crawford took the front 9 and Willie Gracey the back nine. There were 10 two’s recorded with Marty Dalzell and Drew Willis both getting a brace a piece…. happy day’s lad’s.
The Junior 18 hole competition was won by Fintan Walsh with 41 points, 2nd Ryan Tennyson with a score of 39 points and 3rd was Dan Brown with 31 points…well done lads!
John Currie picked his team for the Ulster 4 ball match against Knock Golf Club which played on Sunday at Loughgall, we won 3-2 and 6 holes… not a bad result we just have to do something similar when the team plays the return match at Knock. Well done fella’s!
Good luck and enjoy your golf!
