First things first….Kevin McCoy updates the website on a regular basis, in addition to this while I was on an extended holiday Kevin took on the weekly report and done a great job, many thanks Kevin!

Now for some results, the Saturday Club Stableford (NQ)event 12th March, 1st William Gracey with an excellent 45 points, Cecil Brownlee takes 2nd spot beating Clive Currie on a countback after both score 42 points and 4th is Evan Simpson with 41 points.  There were 7 other scores better than their handicap.

The Murder Mystery NI Weekly Challenge finishing on 11th March…. Winner Andy Currie with 38 points, also on 38 points but beaten on the countback runner-up James Curran.

Junior 9 hole event was won by John Harrison with 23 points, Daniel Brown took 2nd place with 21 points and Ben Currie got 3rd with 17 points!

On Sunday 20th March the final of the Team Challenge takes place between the Ulster Cup Select Team captained by Clive Currie and Team Jimmy Bruen captained by Jason Wilson.  I know Kevin McCoy posed a few questions in a previous report about who maybe playing who, it does look a mouthwatering tie, both strong teams with plenty of quality players who are known for their matchplay prowess.  It really depends on who can produce the goods on the day, lets hope Saturday provides us with decent weather, please check the notice board or ask the team captains for the tee off time… it should be a good match too watch, come along and lend your support the more the merrier!

It seems like a lot of work has been going on around the course, big improvements to those previously unkempt areas, many of those areas that were letting the course down have been thoroughly transformed.  Although these areas are looking a little raw at the moment, we will see the benefits once the good weather arrives…. more so next season.  If we look at the work undertaken by the green keepers in previous years, it has not only improved the look of the course… it’s practical too!  You can find your ball quicker, it speeds up play, less balls are lost, the back of the 16th green and the area between the 12th and 17th fairway’s are great examples.  It also means more people will want to play Loughgall, the forthcoming Jimmy Bruen event would not be held here without these improvements being made…. spending time looking in heavy rough for a ball and losing balls are negative experiences we don’t want.  Well done Brian, Wayne and all the ground staff, keep it going your work is making a difference and very much appreciated!

Stephen Wilson’s Captain’s Drive takes place on SATURDAY March 26th, it’s a shotgun start as we do every year, it signifies the start of the season.  Please make sure to put your name on the list on the noticeboard around the back near the computer if you want to play.  Club Fees need paid before the season starts, that’s £65, you can’t play the competitions unless the fees are paid.

Good luck and enjoy your golf!

Important update….The final of the Team Challenge is being played at 9am on Saturday 19th March….NOT SUNDAY.
