The good weather continues and so does the golf around the country, its always more enjoyable golfing in the sun or at least no rain….long may it continue.  This Saturday Loughgall Golf Club held its Past Captains Cup, a well supported competition which is up there with some of the best events of the year.   Well the headline says Jackson comes to town, actually Jackson refers to Jackson Ruddock and its not the town but Loughgall Golf Club.  Jackson who has been hitting the ball particularly well recently fought off a strong challenge from Mark Placett, both had 41 points but Mark was beaten on the countback, unlucky for Mark.  Rodney Clarke scored 40 points to claim 3rd place, I think Rodney must have scrambled very well because he was spotted going the wrong way down the 6th fairway… not an unusual occurance, but 3 strike Rodney has his own way of doing things and sometimes it works!  The best gross score of the day was that of Jonathan Hewitt, his round of 73 was an excellent exhibition of control and yet the score could easily have been better.  There is a definite possibility that one day Jonathan could come in with a round of golf to challenge Keith Johnston’s course record of 69!   Liam Mccardle had the best senior score with 38 points!

Section winners were Keith Campball 0-12, Raymond Henry 13-18, Thomas Lavery 19+, best front nine went to Sam Jenkins and the best back nine was that of Darren Wilson.

Other competitions…. the Wednesday Sweep sponsored by Nutmeg Treasures was won by Eddie Millar, obviously his prolonged holiday has refreshed and rejuvenated his game, well done Eddie!  The Weekly Challenge was convincingly won by Davy McRoberts who has been putting some good scores together, although he does not always produce his best when he has a scorecard in his hand.  Runner-up was Dessie Hughes… well done the pair of you!  The Sunday Sweep was won once again by Nelson Weir with Stephen Mullen as runner-up. I wont mentioned any more quips about Nelson getting more column space… but he is still getting his name in the report, well done Nelson!

Th

e Ulster 4ball team played away in L.Derry at the Faughan Valley Golf Club and were beat 3-2, but team captain John Currie was reasonably pleased as it was looking grim halfway through the procedings but our lads managed to pull a couple of wins out of what seemed to be no better than halves!  The return leg is at Loughgall 1pm Sunday 13th July, so if the weather is good come to LGC and support the fellas!

There will be players taken out of the matchplay competitions very soon if matches are not played, no excuse for either party not contacting your opponent…. be warned!

Saturday will be a club stableford competition, good luck and enjoy your golf!
