The Weekly Challenge has proved to be a very popular competition since its introduction at the start of the season, although a non-qualifying event it offers a competitive round of golf from Monday to Friday.  This week we had a three way tie for 1st place, Nigel Hutchinson, Pat Keegan and Jonathan Lockhart all returned scores of 38 points, in this situation we go to a countback… best back nine then the last six holes, then the last three and finally the last hole to find a winner.  Jonathan Lockhart was the winner followed by Pat Keegan and Nigel Hutchinson, so well done to Jonathan and unlucky to those so close.

The Wednesday Sweep which is sponsored by Nutmeg Treasures of Moy is a nine hole competition held believe it or not…on a Wednesday?  A competitition which has been running for several years now and has good numbers entering each week, ideal for those that have work commitments or are restricted by time…nine holes in 2 hours is easier to fit into your day than 18 holes and potentially 4 hours which it may take for a round of golf.  The winner of this weeks Wednesday Sweep was Alan Mills, followed closely by Stephen Graham, both very handy golfers on their day, well done fellas!

Saturday’s competition was the 4 club challenge, a non qualifying event due to the closure of the 12th hole while the rally cars sped around the tracks.  A rally that brings nothing to Loughgall, well that is not exactly true as there is usually a decent turnout for the rally and it is always good to see more going on around the park.  However there is no increase to the parks purse, although this is not strictly our business I wonder if it would be ok for the golfers to play for free at Loughgall…mmm?  The fact is the rally uses the park but there is no custom or income from those running or attending the rally.  Why do they have their own stalls to supply the needs of the visitors, whats wrong with our reception/shop, should there not be some mutual benefits?  Now some results…. Jonathan Lockhart seems to be a man in form…1st place for Jonny, 2nd was Noel Cooke who has also started to put some good scores together, 3rd was Nigel Hutchinson who also done well in the Weekly Challenge!  Jonathan Hewitt is playing extremely boring golf at the moment…yes its the gross prize again, I think thats three in a row!  Section winners are Davy McCory 0-12, Matthew McElhatton 13-18, Jonathan Agnew 19+, senior prize goes to Stephen Wilson.  Well done to all those in the prizes and unlucky to the rest of us!

Loughgalls Rosmore team played away to Downpatrick, well actually they didn’t because the match had to be called off due to flooding so a new date has to be arranged to play soon.

The Ulster 4 ball team played away at Royal Belfast and came away with a 3.5-1.5 victory, thats Loughgall through to the next round with a total 7-3 win over Royal Belfast.  Team Captain John Currie’s analysis of the way things went was… a tight match that could have gone either way but as things progressed the pendulum swung more towards Loughgall and a very good win!  Great result fellas!

The course is looking in great shape, we just need some good weather to get the benefit of the work put in by the ground staff… the course has never been in better condition, many thanks to Brian, Wayne and the fellas…. keep it going, its appreciated!

Please check the website for upto date information regarding competition results and fixtures.  Its good to see the knockout competitions are mostly progressing quite well but anyone that has not made the effort to play their matches on time are at a serious risk of being put out!  Good luck and enjoy your golf!
