The captains drive is Loughgall Golf Clubs official start to the season, the weather held up reasonably well and the shotgun start went off without a hitch. As usual there was plenty of good humoured banter both before the start and afterwards when the rounds were complete, it was very enjoyable and Davy Coote was magnificent on the bbq, his burgers were equivalent to playing a sub-par round…. great burgers Davy! Although it was a shotgun start the teams didnt arrive back at the same time, obviously those who started on a hole further away from the tee box were a little later arriving back, but there were a few teams that were at least 30 minutes behind the rest. The scorecards were being counted as the teams returned, it turned out to be the very last team that took the spoils, their score of 102 points was the winning score by a good margin. So congratulations to the team of Dessie Hughes, Eugene Scullion, Stephen Thompson and Robert Mawhinney, well done fellas! They were not the only winners on the day… young Willie McWilliams put his drive off the first tee closest to Captains Drive so well done to Willie you’re a winner too!
It was a big day for our Captain Kevin McCoy who has taken over the reins from past Captain Graham Buckley, so we wish our new captain every success and an enjoyable 2014 captaincy. We also thank outgoing Captain Graham Buckley for all his efforts during a very testing 2013 and hope he also has a successful 2014.
While we are wishing everyone well, it probably is a good moment to thank James Hewitt once again for his time in office, you have your place in the history of LGC and have left big shoes to fill. Fortunately we have a more than able man to step up and take on the role, our new President Kevin Keegan is the perfect choice for this prestigous position….and only the 2nd President in the short history of Loughgall Golf Club! We wish President Kevin Keegan an enjoyable and successful 2 year tenure!
We have the final week of the team challenge this Saturday, so those involved should check with their team captain for information such as tee times etc,. Finally i would like to wish everyone the success and enjoyment they are looking for at Loughgall Golf Club during the 2014 season!
