Glorious weather for The Famous Grouse Stableford Competition

This is a great time of the year with the weather improving and the evenings staying lighter for longer, the course begins to buzz again and what a great weekend of golf we have had. Not only The Famous Grouse competition on Saturday but our own Team Challenge competition resumed with the semi-finals on Sunday.

The winner of The Famous Grouse competition was Richard Abbott with a score of 41 points, three points clear of 2nd place Jonny McKnight on 38 points, also on 38 points and 3rd Adam Kerr and 4th place with 37 points Walter Beattie. The best Gross score went to Jonathan Hewitt taking just 76 shots.

Section winners: 0-12 Noel Holmes, 13-18 Stephen Mills, 19-28 Norman Stewart, the front nine went to Jonathan McNabb and the back nine was won by Mark Gilpin.

There were only 4 two`s this week and they went to William Crozier, Aaron Agg, Walter Beattie and William Turner.

Very well done to all the prize winners and better luck next time to the also rans!

Sunday was the semi-final of the Team Challenge and believe it or not the sun shone from dawn til dusk (very appropriate…. it was a sun-day after all), I know there was a fair bit of friendly pre-match banter between certain members of the opposing teams and good amount of pride at stake, but there can only be 2 teams in the final so 2 teams have to go away disappointed.

The Ulster Cup team took on Kevins Marauders and beat them 7-5. Edenderry took on the Holt Shield Lions and beat them 7.5-4.5. There are always going to be heros and villans for each team, but you can only do the best you can on any given day and because we are human we never quite know which will turn up despite all our efforts. So well done to the winning teams, Clive Currie and his Ulster Cup team will face Raymond Henry and his Edenderry team at a time and date to be arranged.

Hard luck to Kevins Marauders and Holt Shield Lions its no disgrace to go out in the semi-finals, better luck next year.

A couple of important pieces of information:

The club is awaiting verification from the GUI with regards to non-return of scorecards, we expect to hear that the players who do not return a card will not be eligable to recieve any change to their handicap (i.e. 0.1 back).

Another reminder that green fees need paid this Saturday, there will be someone at the starter hut before the competition to take any money to be paid.

April 7th is the last day to get entered into the singles and doubles competitions, but please do not leave it to the last moment and risk missing out, if you have not paid the entry fee (see notice board) then you will not be entered into the draw, even if your name is on the sheet.

Anyone who does not have an official Tee-time for Saturday competition day should contact Stephen Mullen who is responsible of Tee-Time allocations, check the notice board or contact reception for Stephens number.

The new printer seems to be working very well with no mishaps…we will just keep our fingers crossed.

And finally….. Enjoy your golf!
