Stephen Mills takes first place at Saltmarine Strokeplay Event
The weather was relatively good to us over the weekend and Stephen Mills was the man to take full advantage with an excellent nett 65 off his 15 h.cap, that was 2 better than his nearest challenger Adrian Simpson with a 67, 3rd was Brian McGuigan with a nett 68 followed by Kenny Kerr in 4th with a nett 70.
The best Gross score went to Jonathan Hewitt who has acquired a number of best gross scores since the start of the season, his game must be finely tuned to and very consistant to be giving himself a chance of a prize each week, I suppose thats why Jonathan is a 5 handicapper. Adam Proctor took the prize for the best juvenile score with a nett 74 playing off 15.
Section winners were John Currie 0-12, Willie Turner 13-18, Mark Gilpin 19-28, front 9 goes to Willie Fenton and the back 9 to Nigel Magowan. There were eight 2s had this week and they were by Sam Duffy, Nigel Magowan, Jonathan McNabb, John Alfante, Rodney Clarke, Malachy Cullen, Eamon Gorman and Stephen Crowe. Very well done to all those in the prizes and better luck next time to the also rans.
Once again it was an excellent turn out for the saturday competition even though traditionally strokeplay would not be quite as popular with the masses as stableford. The greater the numbers entered into the competition the stronger the event and the more competitive we all have to be to achieve a win or a placing in the prizes. Which in turn means, with more entries… more funds are then available to the club, its a healthy situation for the club to be in, its win win all around…. because we are the club and somewhere down the line it all comes back to us!
The Holt Sheild team played a very good team from Belvior Park on Saturday afternoon and despite our efforts we were beat 3-2, with Derick Hynes and Stephen Mullen getting the wins for Loughgall at home, unlucky fellas.
