An excellent turnout for the Past Captains Cup on Saturday and why wouldnt there be….. great weather, the course in superb order, this is as good as it gets if you are a golfer. Raymond Henry certainly enjoyed his round of golf, his nett 66 was an excellent score and good enough to take 1st prize, it was not the only nett 66 produced on Saturday? Alan Magill had the same excellent score but it was unfortunate for Alan as Raymond beat him on the countback, unlucky but 2nd place is not bad out of 72 entries! Nigel McCorry was chasing the leaders hard, but his nett 67 could only get him 3rd place!
The best gross score went to Mark Placitt, just 75 shots to get around the course. Section winners were Stephen Wilson 0-12, Aaron Agg 13-18, Sam Duffy 19+, Denis Glass had the best front 9 and Eddie Millar the best back nine! The winning senior score was by Harry Clougher. There were a number of 2s recorded and they were by A.Agg, R.Henry, D.Hynes, A.Kerr, J.Lockhart, A.Magill, N.McCorry, S.OConnor, S.Wallace and D.Wilson. Very well done to all the above winners and better luck next time to the rest of us!
Our lads were playing away at Mannan Castle in the Rossmore Cup, we won at home 3-1 but there was still plenty of golf to be played to achieve a result, Mannan Castle is a lovely course and credit to all their staff for the way it was presented. As you might expect its no push over and we found the locals were more than up for the task. It was an up hill battle with each pairing being beaten until the last pair of Noel Holmes and Barry Rayner found they were all level but too late to make a difference. A big thanks to all the players and team captain Derick Hynes on their efforts throughout the competition, better luck next year. Well done to Mannan Castle and good luck in their next match.
