The Edenderry Scramble held on 23rd June proved to be a tightly contested event with five teams tied on 58 points, but on the countback the team of Alan McCartney, Mervyn Todd, Nigel Magowan & William Stewart were confirmed as the winners. Well done fellas!
On Saturday 1st July a club stableford event was held, it was the saturday which also saw both the car rally and the vintage rally taking place, this meant a shortened course to comply with the required safety measures.
Short course or not, it still meant a very competitive event with some excellent scores, none better than the 45 points produced by Stephen Crowe playing off a 14 handicap, could this be a well timed return to form with Captains Day just a few weeks away? In 2nd place and only a point behind was Mark Gilpin on 44 points playing off a 21 handicap and just one behind Mark was Past Captain Eamon Gorman on 43 points with a h.cap of 19. The best Gross score went to another Past Captain…. John Allen, good shooting John!
There were six 2s and they were by Mark Gilpin, Eamon Gorman, John Allen, Richard Wright, Matthew Bown and finally Johnny McNabb, very well done to all the prize winners.

Junior Golf Ireland and Loughgall Golf Club sponsored Cope Loughgall and St Oliver Plunkett Loughgall Primary schools to go to Irish Open at Royal Portrush
The Past Captains Cup
Recent weather conditions have begun to take its toll on golf courses around the country but we have been fortunate to have a course which stands up reasonably well, even so it is evident that some dry weather would be much appreciated by both green keepers and golfers alike.
A good turnout for the strokeplay event especially considering the sodden ground and showers overhead, but anyone going out a little later in the day would probably have benefitted from a rare period of dry, sunny conditions… certainly more enjoyable anyway!
The best score of the day was an excellent nett 68 from Keith Campbell playing off his 10 h.cap, 2nd was Jonathan Hewitt with a nett 71 off a 5 h.cap, 3rd was Stuart Eagle with a nett 74 off his 22 h.cap and 4th Willie Turner also with a nett 74 off a 15 h.cap. Best Gross prize goes to Adam Kerr with a nett 72 playing off 5 h.cap…. I think thats you cut to 4 mate? Adam Proctor had the best juvenile score, a nett 69 off 16 h.cap, thats a great score Adam.
Section winners are John Allen 0-12, Brendan Morgan 13-18, Alan Ball 19-28, Jamie Wortley takes the front 9 and Davy McRoberts the back nine.
There were five 2s recorded and they were by Graham Buckley, Keith Campbell, Brian McGuigan, Adam Proctor and finally Stephen Crowe….again. Well done to all those in the prizes, hopefully you will give the rest of us a chance next week….?
The Ulster Cup team were narrowly beaten on the 2nd leg away to a good Portstewart team, over the 2 legs there was only one point between the two teams 7.5-6.5. Good wins from Sam Jenkins and Noel Holmes was not enough to pull Loughgall through, in hindsight a better result at home was probably needed to take to Portstewart.
Team Captain Clive Currie has been very loyal to his players and heaps nothing but praise upon them for their efforts throughout this seasons campaign, he also wishes to thank Club Captain James O`Hagan and Vice-Captain Graham Buckley for their support. Unlucky fellas, you had great spirit in your team and for a while I thought this could be the season you would go all the way…. there is always next season!
John Allen captains our Sam Rutherford team and they played Tandragee on Sunday in a tightly fought match, Dave Chadwich & Stephen Wilson came away all square in their match. John Allen & Eugene Scullion lost by 2 holes, as did Andy Currie & Stephen Mullen in their match with Jamie Wortley & Michael Connor losing by 1 hole, so we are 5 holes down going in to play Tandragee on the 20th July at Tandragee, good luck fellas…. its not over til its over!
Great news for Lorraine Abbott & Janet Forbes in the Irish Mail Foursomes competiton, they comprehensively beat Ormeau in the quarter finals and are looking forward to see who their opponents will be in the semi finals. This is a fantastic achievement for such a small club to get this far, Lorraine & Janet look set to cause further upset as they are not finished yet…. good luck we are all behind you!
News of the Sunday Sweep! Due to lack of support the Sunday Sweep has been cancelled, I think this is a great shame but if people are not entering the competition then there is no alternative. We really do rely on members to support our competitions, without good support there will be no competitions…. its your club, please support it!
We still have a Wednesday Sweep….. its on a Wednesday, all day!
The competition this saturday is sponsored by The Bank of Ireland.
We all hope for better weather….. Enjoy your golf!
