Nelson Weir…. a name that has been mentioned quite a lot in LGC reports over the past few months, never more than a week or two goes by without Nelson appearing somewhere in the prizes in one of the competitions, be it the Wednesday Sweep, Sunday Sweep, Weekly Challenge or the main sponsored event each Saturday.  Nelson shot a round of 85 playing off a handicap of 19 giving him a winning gross score of 66 to take the Traynors Ltd sponsored strokeplay event in a very competitive field.  Nelson will be pleased to know he is now playing off a handicap of 17.  Close behind with gross scores of 67 taking 2nd and 3rd place respectively were Brian Teague and Stephen (quick step) Mullen.  Adam Kerr shot the best gross of the day with a round of 78.

Section winners were Aaron Agg 0-12, Willie Crozier 13-18, Malachy Cullen 19+, front nine went to Barry Rayner and the back nine goes to Willie McWilliams who is often spoke of in the same sentance as Dick Turpin!  Very well done to the prize winners including those who attained a two… there were six of them!

Other competitions during the week…. Nutmeg Treasures sponsored Wednesday Sweep was won by Willie (the turp) McWilliams, 23 points is an excellent score for the 9 hole competition, well done The Turp!  The Weekly Challenge was won with a points score of 41, David Kelly took 1st place narrowly beating Graham Moore on the countback, also on 41 points was our Vice-Captain Eddie Millar but pushed out of the prizes on countback.

The course is still looking well and praise to the continued efforts of our greenkeepers!

Saturday afternoon saw the beginings of LGC juniors tuition, Davy McRoberts is the man behind the initiative to kick start golf to the young with expert guidance from resident pro Vivian Teague and a handful of proud parents and members who are there to offer assistance when required. The session was a great success and continues for the next 3 saturdays and possibly more.  Ring Loughgall Country Park reception for more information or collect the leaflet in person and visit the park while your there?

Just a wee thank you to all our members, especially those of you who try to make the effort to get out every week and play the competitions, without your support we would not have the thriving club we see today. Keep playing and keep entering the competitions…. you are Loughgall Golf Club!

Good luck and enjoy your golf!
