Despite a number of inter-club competitions being held over the weekend the stats show good entry figures for one of our past captains and sponsor of Keegans Bar Competition. Kevin is an ever present figure around the course and the stats show he is an extremely popular fella, although some say he is hard to listen to (not myself), but you would definitely miss him if he was’nt there. However the white haired wizard was not using his wand as well as he would have liked on Saturday and finished lower down the score sheet, unlucky Kevin but it would not do to win your own event.
Winner of Keegans Bar Competition was Richard Wright with 41 points playing off 9 handicap, well done Richard thats you cut another shot mate. 2nd was Anthony McElmeel also on 41 points and thats a shot cut off your h.cap too Anthony! Stephen Thompson was 3rd with 40 points and cut a shot for his fine efforts. In 4th position is the ever improving David McRoberts also with 40 points and I know he will be absolutely chuffed to bits to lose a shot from his h.cap.
The best Gross was won by Jonathan Hewitt, well done Jonathan you are never too far away from the best gross. Section winners were Eugene Scullion 0-12, Edwin Atkinson 13-19, Neil Orr 19-28, the front 9 was won by Adam Kerr and the back 9 goes to Alan Mills. Best juvenile score was won by Adam Proctor, well done Adam.
There were nine 2s on Saturday and they went to Edwin Atkinson, Kenneth Kerr, Davy McAdam, Stephen Thompson, Richard Wright, Ian Gibson, Kevin McCoy, Raymond Henry and Anthony McElmeel. Well done to all those in the prizes and those who did not quite achieve the golf they wanted there is always another competition next week.

Loughgall`s Rossmore Team was in action on Saturday away to Clover Hill, after a very close match at Loughgall they had a very slight advantage of being just 2 holes up going in to the return game. Once again the matches were all running very close with little between the two teams, the tide turned away from us around the 16th and 17th holes, a number of birdies were sunk by the Clover Hill lads and unfortunately we let the game get away from us. We congratulate Clover Hill and wish them well in there next match. Unlucky John Currie and his chosen team of Jackson Ruddoch & Glen Vennard, Brian Nixon jnr & Ian Magill, Stephen Crowe & Willie Young and Adrian Faulkner & Graham Buckley.
Our Junior Cowdy team played Lisburn at Loughgall on Sunday, another very close game finished with 2 games each but Loughgall down 2 holes with the return match yet to be played at Lisburn. Captain Graham Buckley`s team consisted of Eamon Gorman & Steve Wall, Raymond Henry & Rab Mawhinney with good wins from Eddie Millar & Kyle Montgomery and Kevin Keegan & Anthony McElmeel, but even those matches that were lost were hard fought and credit given to keeping the game tight, well done fellas.
The Pierce Purcell was held at the Maze this weekend…. and what weather we had, the Maze for those who have not been there is a flat course and the wind was as strong as I have seen on a golf course. This is a competition that we have yet to get past the 1st round and it is still a competition we have yet to go further than first round. We ended up about the middle of the pack, however only the top 4 team scores go through out of 14 teams. So its well done but unlucky to team captain Barry Rayner and his team of Seamus Golding & Stephen Mills, Jackson Ruddoch & Glen Vennard, Kevin McCoy & Stephen Crowe, Ian Magill & Brian Nixon jnr and last but not least Aaron Agg & Willie Turner.
Just a quick mention of Richard Wright & Joel Kennedy, the last update I heard is that they are still in the in The Daily Mail pairs competition and shortly to play in the 4th round.
Saturdays competition is a club sponsored Foursome Pairs competition. As always… Enjoy your Golf!
