A Very Busy Weekend Of Golf At Loughgall
The weekend was a busy one for Loughgall Golf Club, in addition to our usual sponsored competition on saturday, our Ulster Cup team played host to Moyola. On Sunday we had the eagerly awaited final of the Team Challenge between the Ulster Cup team and Edenderry, whilst that match was being played out our Holt Shield team visited Belvior Park to do battle with their Holt Shield team. So much to talk about!
Saturday 21st April saw Hoggs Bar sponsored stableford competition take place and as usual the event was well supported. Our winner on the day with 43 points was Jonny McKnight, 2nd with 42 points Graham Buckley, 3rd Raymond Henry with 39 points and 4th steady Eddie Millar also 39 points.
The best Gross was won by Jamie Wortley. Section winners; 0-12 John Currie, 13-18 Adrian Faulkner, 19-28 Anthony McElmeel, front 9 went to James Crawford and the back 9 to Stuart Eagle.
There were a number of players who scored a 2 at a hole and they were Aaron Agg, Jonny McKnight, Willie McWilliams, Richard Wright, John Currie, Ian Magill, Eugene Scullion, Glen Vennard, Harry Proctor and finally Wayne Crawford with 2 twos.
Very well done to all those who were in the prizes and for those who did not do so good there will be another opportunity this coming weekend in the S&J GRAPHIX sponsored strokeplay competition.
The Ulster Cup team were in action on Saturday afternoon at Loughgall taking on the visiting Moyola side, the match proved to be quite hard fought and we managed to produce a 4-3 win, a couple of the Moyola players performed exceptionally well. Although a bigger win would have been preferable the quality of golf being played on the day was very high. So well done to our Ulster Cup team; Noel Holmes, Walter Beattie, Stephen Crowe and particularly to Sam Jenkins, Derick Hynes, Leslie Lyttle and their Captain and chief tactician Clive Currie who brought the the points home. The return match at Moyola will be on Sunday the 29th April… good luck fellas!

On Sunday the Holt Shield team played away to Belvoir Park and once again a very tough competitive match. We were beat 4-1 but it could easily have been the other way around as the matches were that close, Andy Curie brought the points home winning 3&2 but all the players deserve a mention for their efforts; Jonny McKnight, Keith Campbell, Adam Kerr and Derick Hynes who only had 25 putts in his round. Their next match will be at Loughgall this Saturday 2.30pm, playing against Masserine so a better result will be required to satisfy their own very high standards that they set themselves, I`m sure they will give their best and thats all that can be asked.
The long awaited final of the Club Team Challenge took place at Loughgall between the Ulster Cup team and Edenderry on Sunday and despite their gallant efforts Clive Curries Ulster Cup team were well and truly blown away 9.5-2.5 by the new Team Challenge Champions….Edenderry! Very well done Edenderry you were the best team thoughout the tournament and deserve your win.
