The Motor Rally came to Loughgall Country Park on Saturday and as with previous years we have found an alternative format of golf to accommodate the adjustments to the course for health and safety reasons. We usually find a lower turn out on the day of the rally because of the shortened course and the roar of the cars rallying around the estate, golf and rally cars are not natural stablemates, but there seemed to be a decent amount of people arriving to watch the rally and furore of the day.

The foursomes competition was won by Kenny Todd & Nigel Magowan with 32 points narrowly beating Derick Hynes & Jonny McKnight in the count back who were also on 32 points.

There were two teams in action over the weekend, the Ulster Cup Team at Blackwood and the Ulster Fourball at Blacklion.

The Ulster Fourball had a pretty rough time at Blacklion, the course caused problems for all our players and its fair to say they were very disappointed with their performance and the resulting score of 4.5-0.5. The return match will be this weekend at Loughgall and there will be a lot of pride at stake for the team to show what they are made of, I think you can expect some good performances from the fellas…. watch this space!

The Ulster Cup Team were away to Blackwood and done well, we were beaten 4-3 which is a a good result away from home. Good wins from Derick Hynes and Noel Holmes, a half from both Sam Jenkins and Walter Beattie and 3 valiantly fought loses from Leslie Lyttle, Robert Treanor and their captain Clive Currie. If we produce anything like we are capable of in our return match at home this Saturday then we have a better than good chance of going through to the next round, but dont be complacent fellas it still needs to be won!

Well done to all who done well and better luck next time to the rest of us!

This Saturday we have the BJ Mullen&Sons, Builders Merchants sponsored strokeplay event.

The weather is picking up again so you can get out and play the wednesday sweep to keep your game ticking over and enjoy the thrill of the competition again before the weekend. As always ….Enjoy your Golf!
