Saturday at Loughgall was a little different from the usual with a motor rally taking place most of the day, on days like these we normally have an alternative format, hence the Team Scramble. The weather was reasonable and there were some excellent team scores produced, Im sure a few teams would have been thinking as they were walking off the course… think we may be in with a chance? A number of the teams scores were very close at the top but there is only a winner in this event, there are no placings. So very well done to Willie Fenton, Robert Mawhinney, Raymond Henry and last but not least Ian (georgeous) Gordon, their 48 points was an excellent score and deserved to win. Very unlucky to those other teams who were so close behind, but the important word here is…behind! The strength of the competition just adds recognition to the winning teams efforts and a great score produced on the day!
The Holt Shield Team played host to Hilton-Templepatrick over the weekend and had a resounding 4-1 win ,Sam Jenkins, Mark Placitt, Wayne Crawford and Team Captain Andy Currie winning their matches. An excellent result in a very hard fought competition, many of the other clubs have a much larger selection of low handicappers compared to Loughgall so well done fellas, bring that winning spirit to the next match!
Take note of the knockout competition sheets in the backroom on the notice board, check to see who you may be playing next and get the game played in good time… do not put it off if you can play, it only causes problems for others and maybe for yourself in the end!
Just a word about golf etiquette and general good manners. This is a fundimental part of the game of golf and its how we all get along. If your group/4ball are playing slow, if you are more than a hole behind those infront and the next 4ball are and have been tight behind your group, let them through as soon as it becomes apparent to allow things to move along nicely. However the 4ball behind should not be teeing off too early if those infront are in range!
