Saturday’s competition was a Club Stableford event and despite the temporary situation of the course, treatment to the greens etc., there were some excellent scores recorded.  I know a few people were amazed at the two best scores of the day, after the spiking and sanding which has to be done around this time of the year to prepare and maintain the condition of the greens for the next season.  Even though this season is not quite over there is an optimum time for doing these things depending upon the weather, we have to trust our greenkeepers they know better than we do… and let’s face it they have not done too bad have they?  The results… a tie for first place once again, two superb scores of 45 points from Willie Camblin and Steve Wall and in this case it was Willie Camblin that pipped Steve Wall to first place with Steve taking the runners-up position. Here is some very good news for both of them, Willie has been cut from 19 to 17 h.cap and Steve has been cut from 18 to 16 h.cap, if I’m not mistaken I believe this maybe their lowest handicap for each of them.  It’s good news for everyone else too, as it will be that much harder for them to achieve those high scoring rounds in the future, you never know we may just be in with a chance now?  Other scores on the day… Mal Cullen also had a good day with a score of 42 points for 3rd place!  The best gross score was that of Jonny Hewitt just two under the course, the best senior score was Robert Treanor’s 38 points. Section winners were Darren Wilson 0-12, Willie Crozier 13-18, Robert Mawhinney 19+, front nine went to Noel Holmes and Cecil Brownlee took the back nine! Only four two’s were recorded.  Well done all those who done well enough to get a prize and maybe better luck next time for the rest of us!  Only four two’s recorded.
The Weekly Challenge sponsored by Murder Mystery NI was won by Jonny Hewitt with 41 points… well there wasn’t a gross prize available!  Another familiar name cropping up again in this week’s competition, it looks like you have had a very successful week Willie Camblin, it’s only 39 points Willie but a very good 39 points because no one except Jonny could beat you, unlucky Andy Matthews your 39 points  was a decent score but it’s only 3rd place mate!  Just three two’s recorded.
Junior 9 hole competition was won by Fin Walsh, 2nd was Emmett Lavery and 3rd Daniel Brown. The 6 hole competition was won by Patrick McGeary…. very well done fellas!
The Public Courses Competition was played at St Andrews last week and once again we had some success, Noel Cooke had 36 points and came 3rd in his section and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, he played well but rueing a couple of missed opportunities to have done better.  However the Ladies of Loughgall are making quite a name for themselves, Fiona Martin came 1st in her section with 39 points and is already home with the trophy, well done Fiona! This is the same trophy as Lorraine Abbott won last year!  Without getting too presumptuous…. whose name will be on the 2016 trophy from Loughgall Ladies this time next year?
Saturday 26th September will be the PC.COM Team Scramble which will be a Shotgun Start…. you need to be there for 8am as your playing partners and the hole you will start from will be allotted to you once you get to the starters hut….it starts sharp at 8.30!  PLEASE DON’T waddle in at 8.20 expecting to get sorted out because you my be down to start from the 14th, 15th or 16th and by the time you know where you are going it’s not possible to be in place, THANK YOU!
Good luck and enjoy your golf!
