The weather has been worse of late but it was not so bad for the big competition of the week…. Keegans Bar Stroke Event which was sponsored by a past captain and our current President Kevin Keegan a stalwart of LGC. Just like Kevin himself this competition is very popular with our members, hence the excellent turnout! The winner is no stranger to the top of the leaderboard, especially so during the winter months where he almost took up permanent residence in that position. However being the generous good hearted soul he is he allowed some of the rest of us mere mortals who participate each week to take a turn at the top of the leaderboard, but he is back… Dessie Hughes had a nett 66 score for 1st place! Very unfortunate for Andy Currie who also had a nett 66 but beat after a countback into 2nd position. Jonathan Agnew had a good game too, 3rd place is not to be sneezed at in a strokeplay competition with such a good turnout! The best gross score was that of Sam Jenkins going around the course in 75 shots! The best senior score was Spencer Lawson’s nett 68. Section winners were Alan Magill 0-12, Jack Traynor 13-18, Ian Megaw 19+, front 9 goes to Kevin Keegan and the back 9 to Jackson Ruddock…..very well done all the prize winners! Point of note, Jack Traynor producing another excellent score is now cut to an 11 handicap by the computer because of exceptional scoring…. well done Jack!
The Murder Mystery NI sponsored Weekly Challenge was won this week by Mr Stephen Mullen with a very good score of 42 points, that’s 2 shots better than our Club Captain Mr Eddie Millar with another very good score of 40 points! Brian McGuigan had the best gross going around in 70 shots!
The Wednesday Sweep sponsored by Nutmeg Treasures was won by John Currie with 18 points, Andy Matthews took 2nd place with 16 points….well done fellas!
The 18 hole Junior competition was won on Saturday by Emmett Lavery….43 points! Runner-up also on 43 points was Ben Toal, unlucky Ben….two excellent scores, only wish you could both win but there can only be one winner. Ben Currie had 39 points to take 3rd place. Week 3 of the Junior Sweep was won by Daniel Brown! July player of the month…1st Daniel Brown, 2nd Ben Currie, 3rd Nathan Agg, very well done lads your future is looking good, keep it up! A big thank you to those that are doing the best for the juniors, in particular Clive Currie but also the others that have been there to lend support, a great job is being done by all!
Captains Day is August 1st so I hope everyone has their game in order as it’s only a matter of days until its upon us, checkout your tee times for Saturday on the noticeboard. Good luck to all, enjoy the day and hoping everything goes well for our Captain Eddie Millar on his big day!
