Loughgall Golf Club, weekly update of events…..
We usually talk about the weather during the past week and I suppose this weeks write up is no different, but suffice to say its been a little changeable…. being an optimist I have to say the best is yet to come!  I’m expecting fabulous weather for the start of August and seeing as our Captain Eddie Millar is such a nice chap it’s certain to be sunny dry and warm for our Captains Day on the 1st.  I have heard there are some people flying in to take part in the event…?
Back to the week just gone, the Nutmeg Treasures sponsored Wednesday Sweep took place on Wednesday…surprisingly enough and the clear winner of the 9 hole qualifying event was Anthony Ball with 23 points, followed by Dennis Lavery on 21 points and Drew Willis in third spot with 19 points.  Good scoring fellas especially Mr A.Ball, his 23 points is better than it looks taking into account the working of the handicaps for this 9 nine hole comp….!
There was a good turnout for the Murder Mystery NI sponsored Weekly Challenge and the scores were very competitive.  The best of the weeks scores belonged to Darren Wilson, his score of 40 points was one better than Pat Keegan in 2nd place with 39 points, followed by the round of 38 points produced by Andy Currie, well done fellas!
On Saturday we had the Darren Clarke Qualifying Event which was a stroke competition, an excellent round of 82 shots (nett 66) was the top score on the day and that was by big hitting Jack Traynor.  Well Jack obviously done more than just hitting the ball a long way on Saturday, we are definitely in trouble if his short game gets as good as his long game.  Very well done Jack, your handicap will go down after this round of golf, it’s what you deserve when you play well!
Stephen McKenna went around in 92 shots (nett 69) which gave him 2nd place, the next best was Dessie Hughes who went around in 87 shots (nett 71) for 3rd place.  The best gross of the day was Jonathan Hewitt who shot a 78.  I do believe you are out to better your record of taking 10 best gross score prizes in a season, it will be hard to beat!  The best senior score was that of Robert Treanor going around in 86 shots!
Section winners were Wayne Crawford 0-12, Noel Hegarty 13-18, Willie McWilliams 19+, front 9 was Sean McCann and the back 9 was Gary Lavery.  Well done all those in the prizes!
The Junior 18 hole competition was won by Emmett Lavery with 35 points, runner up was Daniel Brown on 28 points.  Thursday was week 2 of the Junior Sweep, the winner was Daniel Brown, well done to Emmett and Daniel this week and better luck to the other juniors who I’m sure will be pushing for a prize next week!
Another DIVOT REPAIR EVENING will be taking place on Monday 27th July at 6pm, there is no reason why we cant have a big gathering to help out for an hour or two.  It shows a little appreciation for the work undertaken by our brilliant ground staff who do their best to keep our course in great shape throughout the year.  It also free’s up some of their time to do other jobs that need done around the course….many hands make light work!  Check out the notices in and around our noticeboards and by the computer, also at the front desk at reception!  THANK YOU!
Good luck and enjoy your golf!
