Good weather on the day saw Adrian Simpson come in with a nett 67, enough to win the competition one stroke ahead of Brendan Morgan in 2nd place with a nett 68. Alan Mills came in 3rd with a nett 69 closely followed by Stephen Wilson who had a nett 70. The best Gross score went to Jonathan McNabb!
The section winners were Michael Connor 0-12, Stephen Crowe 13-18, Neville Cornett 19-28, front nine went to Edwin Atkinson and the back nine goes to William Stewart, well done fellas good scoring on the day and once again a very well done to Adrian Stewart our competition winner!
There were a number of 2s, twelve to be exact and they were by Adam Galbraith, Alan Mills, Stephen Thompson, Kenny Kerr, Simon Wallace, John Allen, Derick Hynes, Willie Turner, Barry Rayner, Jamie Wortley, Richard Wright and finally Nicholas Salley well done fellas its always nice to get a two especially if the rest of your round didn`t quite live up to your expectations.
A few other points of interest, in our Singles Matchplay Knockout competition we have a winner, the final was between Stephen Thompson and Ian Gordon, the match was very close and had to continue up the 1st after 18 holes had already been played. Our Singles Champion for 2012 is Ian Gordon, very well done mate and hard luck to Stephen who came so close.
Our Doubles Matchplay Knockout competition final was between the father and son pairing of Paddy & Anthony McElmeel against Neville Cornett and singles finalist Stephen Thompson. Our Doubles Champions for 2012 are Paddy & Anthony McElmeel, well done fellas and very hard luck Neville and Stephen.
The Walker Cup was completed a few weeks back, resulting in a win for Sam Jenkins beating Stephen Mullen in the final, I know these two fellas both have a great matchplay record but I believe Sam was very hot on the day and deserved his win, unlucky Stephen but well done Sam!
The final of the Wednesday Sweep came to a conclusion with Captain James O`Hagan the outright winner and Davy McRoberts runner-up, very consistant golf fellas, well done to the pair of you!
Lorraine Abbott & Janet Forbes recently went to Carlton House to play in the final of the Ladies Irish Mail Foursomes, there were four pairings on the day in the final and our ladies were drawn against Tipperary, unfortunately the Tipperary ladies won against Lorraine & Janet and became the overall winners of the competition, with Lorraine & Janet taking 4th spot in the play-off. So a big well done for the Loughgall Ladies who really done exceptionally well battling their way to the final, I am sure they would have liked a different outcome but they have so much to be proud of, you have put Loughgall Ladies on the map and…. there is always next year!
This coming Saturday 22nd September is Presidents Day, I`m sure our President James Hewitt will be looking forward to the day as we all are, we just keep our fingers crossed for good weather. The tee times are printed and up on the notice board so please check them and be on the tee box 5 mins before tee off, until then good luck and enjoy your golf!
