Club Stableford result and Club Team Challenge from 06/3/2010

The weather conditions were superb, as was the course on Saturday at loughgall for the final of the club team challenge cup between Neil Walkers Holt Shield team and the club secretary’s Rossmore team, all was needed now was a final to match the occasion and neither team was in any mood to disappoint. The match could not have been tighter after nine holes play with both teams up in two and and all square in the middle game. The first pair to get a point on the board for their team was Walter Beattie and Jonathan Lockhart for the Rossmore team with a fine 2 holes victory over Stephen Mullen and Phillip Morrow and the Rossmore players thought it was going to be their day when Jonathan McKnight and team Captain Joel Kennedy put their team 2 up with good win over Kieran Kelly and Harry Clougher but the holt shield fought back showing  true quality with Kenny Todd and Roy McCrea coming out on top in a cracking third game against Jeff Armstrong and Dave Chadwick, Dave managed to go round the course in 76 shots and still lost by 1 hole. In the fourth game Rossmores Eugene Scullion and Aaron Agg played out of their skin also to lose by one hole against big hitting due Paul Lyness and Andrew Currie which was the game that decided who won the cup as the fith game was well and truly over by now with Jason Wilson and Alan McCartney Running away with the last game by 5 holes over Rossmores Richard Wright and Brian Teague. At the presentation ceremony after the match our new club captain Brendan Morgan handed over the Club Team Challenge Cup to a delighted Neil Walker of the Holt shield team and commented on the success of the competition on finding new talent in the club for the club team captains to chose from and also the players they might want to give a free transfer to.  
 
The winner in the club stableford at the weekend was 13 handicapper Stephen Crowe with an excellent score of 39 pts. Second spot went to our new vice captain David Coote with 35 pts. Clive Currie finished third with 35 pts and Daniel Huey won the juvenile prize with a fine score of 37 pts off 12 handicap. Only two players managed a “2” at the weekend with Derick Hynes at the 13th hole and Kevin McCoy getting his at the 15th hole.
 
This Saturday 13th will see the last club stableford being played until after the winter league as all competitions are now sponsored from 20th march through to the end of the year. The Sunday sweep will also be starting up again this week 14th march and must be played off the back markers.
