LGC, Completion of Armagh Potato Company Winter League……

It’s wet wet wet… if you missed the wet weather you must be extremely fortunate or away in a better climate!  Despite the weather there were still the hardy, or perhaps foolhardy golfers who brave almost anything that the weather throws at them, which is handy because it means we have the results of eight weeks of winter league competition!  Although the prizes only go to 1st, 2nd and the best overall gross I have given the top 10 (and tied) positions.   1st) Pat Keegan-245 points, Gross Sam Jenkins-244 pts, 2nd) Cecil Brownlee-243 pts, the chasing pack…. 4th) Evan Simpson/Davy McAdam-238 pts, 6th) Edwin Atkinson -229 pts, 7th) Malachy Cullen-228 pts, 8) Andy Currie/Neville Cornett-223 pts and 10) Willie McWilliams/Aaron Agg-220 pts.  Well done fellas, a very competitive eight week competition kindly sponsored by Armagh Potato Company who are one of our long standing sponsors and very much appreciated.  A great event for the prize winners Pat, Sam and Cecil who really did produce the goods on a very consistent basis and deservedly won their respective prizes!

The Junior 9 hole competition was won by John Harrison with 19 points, 2nd Ben Currie 15 pts, 3rd was Luke Weir 13 pts!  The player of the month for November and 2nd and 3rd placings were the same as this week’s winning line up, well done John, Ben and Luke!  Those of you that completed this week’s golf can give yourselves a pat on the back for not quitting in the awful weather conditions, great credit for your determination.  Well done all that competed in the competition!

The LGC Quiz Night took place on Friday evening past and turned out to be a great night, our master of ceremonies was Cecil Brownlee who put together an excellent and diverse arrangement of questions which stretched and tested the best of us!  There was a great turnout and plenty of banter was had, the enforcer was pounding the floor collecting the finished answer papers and keeping everything ticking along nicely and Cecil’s friend done a thoroughly efficient job of marking the papers between the different sections of the quiz.  However apart from the social side of the night which went very well there was a more important reason for the night, between raffles, an auction and the quiz itself we managed to raise well over £600 for the Captains chosen charity…. Guide Dogs for the Blind!  Many thanks to Cecil and his helpers for their efforts in producing a great quiz, our Captain Eddie Millar and President Kevin Keegan (whose team somehow managed to win the quiz) and all those who provided the various gifts and donations!  Also….everyone who made the effort to turn up on the night and last but not least Carol and the girls at Hoggs Bar who are always helpful and provide a service with a smile!  There will be another quiz in January which will be produced by Barry Rayner, all being well we will have as good a turnout then as we did for Cecil Brownlee’s Quiz Night and every bit as enjoyable! January Quiz Night date to be confirmed soon.

There is a Murder Mystery Night at Hoggs Bar on Friday 4th December at 8.30!  I personally have never been to one of these evenings but I have heard it’s a great night.  There is information about the evening and how it works with information about the plot/story, look on the club notice board/kitchen, near the club computer.  It’s something different… why not give it a try, bring some friends… if you have no friends come along anyway, you never know you might make some?  Usually the more that turn up the better the evening!

Good luck and enjoy your golf!
