Loughgall Trio return home from the Belfry - 17th October 2007
Jonathan Hewitt, Daniel Huey and James Hewitt Jnr returned home from representing N.Ireland in the Final of the British Heart Foundation at the prestigious course The Belfry.
The trio managed a sixth spot place overall and were beaten by only 4 points separating the first 6 places.
In the individual prices young Daniel was cruelly pushed into 2nd spot by the count back system.
This was a competition were a larger part of the field were sixteen years of age plus and I have to congratulate the trio on a fantastic result, a result which so far is the best any N. Ireland team has achieved
This was an event of which over 5500 players took part in and were on the day 21 teams battled it out and what an achievement it was for a team, where the youngest was only eleven and the eldest 14 to manage such a result.
This was a team that gave everything any coach could ask for and to be involved with them and watch how they carried themselves in such a professional manner was a delight and a joy to coach. Loughgall Golf Club should be very proud that such well behaved and dedicated players are in the club.
On a final note I would like to thank the parents of the teams for their involvement, encouragement towards myself and for contributing in everyway possible to make this a weekend and I can honestly say we will cherish for years to come ( yes even the parents).
Attached is a formal photograph presented to the team members.
Regards
George Hewitt

Loughgall Trio claim a great victory at Moyola in the British Heart Foundation N.I Final - 18th April 2007
A great victory was achieved by three of our under 18’s at Moyola County golf course on Tuesday the 17th April.
Representing Loughgall to Tee off first was Jonathan Hewitt age (11) James Hewitt Jnr (13) and Daniel Huey(12).
Playing against a range of under 18’s with handicaps as low as 2 the three young players put up a performance any convenor would be more than proud off.
With a joint score the three were able to take a three point lead early in the afternoon and managed to sustain very steady golf through the last 3 holes to claim victory over the trailing 48 teams. Birdies and pars from all players ensured the lead was sustained during the last few holes.
As a result of their victory the tree boys are off to The Belfry on the 1st of October to represent Northern Ireland in the British Isles Grand Final (supported by Colin Montgomery).
Not only did the team win the event but they won the award for raising the most money for the BHF. A total of £800 was raised and the team and the convenor would like to at this point say a very big thank you to all who gave so generously.
And finally it emerged that Jonathan Hewitt was the first ever primary school player to participate in this event and the winning team the youngest ever to win it.
As acting convenor can I say a big thank you to the BHF for a great day where an event was run like clockwork and a special thanks to Jonathan, James and Daniel for the excellent way they represented the club, their grit and determination to win and I hope it sends out a message to all our young ones “If you want it, you can win it!”
Good luck and The Belfry here we come!
Regards
George Hewitt.
